2021 continued to pose difficulties and restrictions due to Covid. However, in the later part of the year, it was good to physically meet again on Sundays even if we couldn’t sing. This restriction was later lifted but with increased Covid numbers in the population we continued with practices to minimise risk to those attending.

Some church events, Ladies’ meeting and Kids Church, were able to resume. We continued with weekly Zoom Bible Studies and when allowed alternated these with prayer meetings in the church. Some of the men joined MenZone, a weekly venture setup and led by Steve Young, providing a time of fellowship, sharing, and study.

We have endeavoured to continue to keep in touch through phone, email, weekly newsletter, streaming the Sunday service to our YouTube channel, and a Sunday informal Zoom get together.

Despite all the restrictions, it has been lovely to have new people come and fellowship with us, hold a Baptismal service, Harvest collection, and Shoebox appeal led by Kath Brown.

Partners

Sadly over the last two years we have lost the support of a small number of partners. Also two long-standing partners, Nellie Newell and Nora Robson passed away during 2021. With this in mind the partners list as of 1[st] February 2022, has been amended:

2021 2022
Active members 46 32
Emeritus(Those housebound) 3 4

Leadership Group

Membership: Ken Evans retired, December 2021.

Regular monthly meetings have been held to discuss the practical and spiritual needs of the fellowship. Where allowed these were physical meetings, otherwise they were held over Zoom video conferencing.

Governing Document

Various administrative changes have been made to the Trust Deed

Children’s and Youth Work

This is an area we have felt needs strengthening and developing. With no one within the fellowship feeling called to lead this we have explored options to appoint someone externally, preferably part-time with a view to developing this to a full time position. With the current financial position this would initially be on a two year fixed contract. The role and potential areas of recruitment have both been affected by the Covid pandemic. Initial enquiries through the local churches and organisations such as ‘Youth for Christ’ have been unsuccessful. This is an on-going exercise.

Hire

Slimming world are now back to hiring the venue two evenings a week. It was nice to hear of their support for our harvest collection.

Insurance

We took the opportunity to claim for loss of income e.g. hire, due to Covid. This has been a long drawn out process and is still on-going

Notes

Income (Receipts)

1. Gif Aid: Having to resubmit paperwork to be able to claim gift-aid, our submission was delayed this year. It will show in 2022 accounts

2. Accounts: With HSBC now charging for community funds, and the PCC account not showing any activity which would lead to it being frozen, we are in the process of setting up a WVCC savings account. PCC monies will be transferred into this and then the PCC account closed.

3. Hire: This was much improved over 2020. However due to Covid restrictions there was no income up to April, and then a month when this was at a reduced level.

Ring Fenced Monies: Included in the general accounts.

a. Encounter: £ 922

b. Computer Café: £1500

2021 Overview

Our day-to-day costs have shown a year end deficit of £3099, which included a gift of £1000 for the Corradini’s building request. With our reserves we are in a good position. 2022 should show some improvement with a full 12 months hire income, and gift aid.

We are thankful for the faithful support given especially throughout 2021.

Last year, due to Covid, we were unable to hold the church leadership/missions review to discuss the Missions work. The Missions work/support continued as per 2020.

We had no visits from our missionaries in 2021 due to Covid.

In 2021, the total amount of Missions giving at WVCC was £5320, including a gift of £1000 to the Corradinis towards a new church building.

Ginny Perkins and Carol Seymour are still trying to retire but have come up with some problems passing on the Lighthouse Project school and will not be leaving the Congo until this is resolved. Continue to pray for them as they continue win souls for Christ.

In November we prayed for the persecuted church and on 7[th] we took part in the ‘International Day of Prayer’ where Christians worldwide came together and prayed for our brothers and sisters being persecuted for their faith.

Also in November, we took part in the shoebox appeal, which is run by Samaritan’s Purse. Thanks to all who contributed and a special thanks to Kath Brown for organising the shoebox collection. She has now stepped down from this role – we really appreciate her hard work over the years. We have recently become prayer partners with ‘Samaritan’s Purse’ and are starting to receive information from them.

In January 2022 we received news from Nic and Sarah McBride, who work for Sunrise Foundation in China. Unfortunately, due to the political climate in China Nic and Sarah are coming back over to the UK in June and the Sunrise Foundation will be deregistered by January 2023. I will try and arrange a visit from Nic and Sarah when they come back over to the UK.

As the Covid restrictions are being lifted we are now able to have visits to our church from our Missionaries. We are trying to arrange visits from the following missionaries:

Gabriel & Daniela Corradini Martin Dudgeon (Platform 67) Sam Mooney (Vision Rescue)

In 2022, I will continue to share as much information as I can (mainly via the weekly church newsletter) to keep us up to date with all our Missions work from around the world.

On behalf of all the Missionaries and Missionary organisations, I would like to thank you so much for your continued prayers and support.

PASTOR Masai Kahindi

It never seems to surprise me how fast a year can go by. The saying is true: “Time goes so fast, but memories last forever." My heartfelt appreciation to you leaders, and each one of you who have volunteered to help in any way throughout the year in our church.

I consider it a privilege and truly an honour to serve the Lord with all of you and to be a leader of a church where every difference in terms of culture, ethnicity, and colour simply melts away in the warmth of genuine Christian love. In 2021, as we were fixing our eyes unto the Lord our goal was to prepare for a Divine visitation. Even though we may not have a scientific instrument to measure the level of divine visitation we attained last year, I am sure both as a congregation and as individuals, we experienced it in some measure.

Now, it’s true to say, the global Covid 19 pandemic was an exceptional challenge for all of us. 2021 has been unpredictable and turbulent.” BUT GOD – “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). BUT GOD – “But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us...” (2 Cor. 7:6a). BUT GOD – “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive...” (Eph. 2:4-5a).

A year of Covid 19 safety protocols established for us as individuals, our church, as well as the restrictions imposed upon the general public greatly curtailed our ability to meet in the ways we’ve been accustomed to. For the sake of everyone’s wellbeing and peace of mind, I was not able to call on church members in their home, including our housebound members as much as I would have wanted.

Because of social distancing and lockdowns, midweek and evening services were only offered remotely for many months and we were not afforded the usual opportunity to meet and greet one another as we had in the past. The result of the aforementioned is that I often felt somewhat disconnected from the majority of our church family and hopefully, 2022 together we will take care of that!

On the other hand, being forced to adapt to these restrictions created opportunities to ‘think outside of the box,’ which is almost always a good thing! By and large, the overall expectation of what we would accomplish in that year together was relatively low due to the restrictions.

The basic expectations of me as the pastor were to simply keep things going until things opened up again. The continued various restrictions again caused us to consider technology to broadcast our weekly worship services on livestream, YouTube and Zoom. We were determined that it was in everyone’s best interest to provide a digital offering of worship. Not only because of the pandemic and those self isolating, but also we saw that it was a great service for our elderly people in the church who were already housebound because of ill health, that they too could be able to participate with the whole congregation every week in taking communion while in their homes.

To that end, the camera purchased in 2020, allowed us to connect with our housebound and isolating partners. It also made us known as a congregation on the internet by putting our services on YouTube and other media platforms.

OUR FUTURE PLANS:

We have been limited with restrictions due to Covid. Despite this our website/social media have been useful resources for new people to find us. We will continue to develop these further.

We also need to consider reaching out, so will be looking to:

Our children’s work needs strengthening and youth work developing. As mentioned in the administrator’s report we are already looking at options to appoint someone to lead this work.

The men have already started to meet together for fellowship and spiritual input. We would like to see this continue and develop further.

My vision this year is to passionately appeal to those who have fallen away from God, and others confused by what is going on in the world through the pandemic and other global issues, to examine themselves, and return to the Lord. I believe as our theme states this year in Lamentation 3:40; Let us test and examine our ways and return to the Lord,” is the challenge for all of us here at Wear Valley Christian Centre. Friends, it begins with us, and I know it’s possible because God is with us. Let’s look forward for a great year, of growth in our church as we humble ourselves before Him.

With every blessing.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Wear Valley Christian Centre

This report is on the accounts for Wear Valley Christian Centre (charity number 1052523) for the year ended 31[st] December 2021. The accounts are set out on the accompanying document.

Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, which have been completed on a Receipts and Payments basis, as allowed by The Charities Act 2011. The gross income of the charity does not exceed £250,000 and therefore, under The Act, only an independent examination is required, not a full audit.

Accordingly, my examination has included a review of the accounting records of the charity, and a comparison of those records with the evidence presented - (receipts and invoices: all of which were made available to me) – but does not make a determination that they present a “true and fair view”, as to do so would, in law, require a full audit.

I have acted as treasurer for the Civil Service Sports & Social Club at my workplace, and for my local church for a period of four years up to 2017 and, within the meaning of The Act, am a competent person to conduct this independent examination.

Independent Examiner’s Statement

Having examined the accounts, and evidence available, I am satisfied that there is no reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the accounts have been prepared other than in accord with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011

Nor, in my opinion, is there any matter within the accounts to which attention would need to be drawn.
