## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2024**
## **Aims and purposes**
New Music Players aims to commission and perform new works by mainly UK-based composers in high profile concerts. Through this activity, NMP provides education and professional development for the composers it works with and for the professional performers who rehearse and perform the new works. The audience benefit from experiencing new work performed at the highest professional level.
## **Achievements and Performances**
## **Saturday 23 March 2024 at The Warehouse, Waterloo, London**
A concert and recording of new and recent works by Evelyn Ficarra, Ed Hughes, Rowland Sutherland, Matt Sheeran and Shirley J. Thompson. Recording by Simon Weir of Classical Media for future CD release on Divine/Metier with works written for the South Downs Songbook project with the Orchestra of Sound and Light in 2022.

## **Monday 28 September – Monday 4 November 2024**
Rehearsals, performances and recording of two works by Beijing-based composer Nicholas Smith: _The Girl from the French Fort_ for orchestra and narrator, and his new opera _The Stone God_ at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London. Orchestra of 30 players. The first stage fee payment of £12,000 was made on 27 March 2024. Payments to the musicians will be made after 4 November 2024.

Performance of John Casken’s _The Shackled King_ at the Martin Harris Centre, University of Manchester as part of the University’s 200[th] anniversary celebrations.

CD release date for ‘Distant Voices, New Worlds’, featuring New Music Players and the Orchestra of Sound and Light performing works by Shirley J Thompson, Evelyn Ficarra, Rowland Sutherland, Ed Hughes and Matthew Sheeran.
