REPORT OF OUR CHAIR OF
TRUSTEES
As I settle down to write this brief commentary in December 20251 note it is exactly 30 years since
the incorporation and registration on 22nd December 1995 at Companies House of the Sutton
Schools Christian Workers Trust.
Since that date, much has changed in the world and in the UK education system, and hence in
Sutton's schools.
In 1995 the statutory National Curriculum was still bedding in and since then the Academies
Programme has seen a major expansion, allowing schools to convert to Academy status and
operate outside of direct local authority control and support. receiving their funding directly from
central government., what I perceive as a major cultural change in schools. The introduction of
free schools has further diversified the system and increased school autonomy. The accountability
system has been further sharpened, relying heavily on data from national tests and Ofsted
inspections to create school league tables. In many cases this has added greatly to the workload
on teachers and school leaders and in the estimate of many has greatly increased the general
sense of pressure of work and expectation within schools.
Against this landscape, one thing which has rerna￿ned constant is the continuing mission and
ministry of Sutton Schools Work and its team of staff workers and greatly valued volunteers.
Notwithstanding the increasing pressures within. schools have continued to open their doors and
welcome SSW'S input in their classrooms, assemblies and Christian unions. It is greatly to the
credit of the whole SSW Team. their professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm that schools
continue to widely welcome their input and support, fully aware of the Christian values and
message which drives them.
As reflected in the details of Simon, our Directof s, report, 2024-25 has again been a year of 'full
steam ahead, with a full and expanding programme of lessons, special days, assemblies. Easter
Experience and Christian Union meetings. There is a real sense that 'God is on the move,
amongst young people in our Borough, perhaps not entirely unrelated to reports of a 'Quiet
Revival, amongst the young of our country.
Thanks to the work of SSW and all those who work within it and support it, the name of Jesus and
a great deal about Him, is heard daily in classrooms, meeting rooms and assembly halls
throughout Sutton, and not only in Sutton. as I have discovered of late, the freely available SSW
online resources, many of which were created during the Covid years, are proving invaluable to
schools far and wide.

As ever, in order to continue this ministry, we remain indebted to the prayers and generosity of
those churches, charitable trusts and individuals who continue to faithfully support this work- to
whom we say 'Thank You, and behind it all we see, and are thankful for. the Hand of a faithful
Father God who promises in His Word 'He who did not spare even his own Son, but gave him up
for us all, how will he not also, along with him. graciously give us all things?,
l am grateful also to the ever-faithful board of SSW trustees each of whom generously bring a
distinctive contribution to the oversight and work of the trust. to Petra Port our indomitable
Secretary, to Ade Adesanya who kindly manages our payroll, and to our incredibly talented
volunteers and our workers, Abigail, Maisie and Sarah, and Simon our leader and Director who
has also led the ministry in secondary schools with irrepressible enthusiasm! After many years of
inspired and valued service with SSW, we have said a final thank you and
farewell to Sarah Skinner who has received a call to ministry in her home
church and warmly welcomed Maisie Cromie who brings a wealth of talent
and passion as our new primary schools, ministry leader.
We look forward, with faith and confidence in our God, to many future
years in the story and ministry of Sutton Schools Work. Thank you for your
support and for reading this year's SSW Report.

Report of the Director of
Charitable Activities
And once again, I reflect on another year at SSW, and simply marvel at what God has enabled us
to deliver in our schools. He has been so faithful, so consistent and empowering, and we cannot
thank Him enough.11 is my delight to bring you this full summary of our year, and apologise for its
length. I pray that you might find encouragement. confidence and hope for the future of the church
in Sutton, as you will find evidence of God's grace and power throughout!
Our overarching aim is to bring the Good News of Jesus into every classroom. We want to provide
opportunities for all pupils and staff to hear about Him, and to know that they all can respond if
they want to, and no-one is excluded from that invitation. So it's only fit that I start with 2 examples
of those who have done so.
We have the wonderful story of a Year 10 boy starting to attend church last December and
discovering Jesus, and now is helping to lead his brand new CU at his school, and who
consistently turns up for the weekly pre-school prayer meeting with us. And a TA who approached
Abby at the end of an assembly only 2 months ago, virtually in tears, wanting to know more about
Jesus. She is now regularly attending a Sutton church. alongside her family member who she
invited along with her!
These stories are just two of many- we have all had conversations through the year during which
those we have spoken to have responded positively and wanting to know more. May 2025-26 see
even morell!!
It's always worth looking at the sheer volume of delivery, as each encounter means we told a
young person (and adult who was present), in a variety of ways, that Jesus is our Lord, we follow
Him, and they can too. Never losing sight of the fact that each person has their own walk of faith,
we know that the volume of our work creates ripples around the borough, as schools understand
that, by not having SSW in their building, they miss out on what thousands of others are
experiencing.
The bare numbers are staggering:_
PRIMARY
23 RE days across 6 schools. This was a reduction on last year, but we have redesigned the
programme for 202516, and been overwhelmed by the response,. more to follow at the end of this
update!
14 Discover Christmas (down from 16. but we have recently started charging so may have had an
impact)

RE lessons in Sutton Grammar, Carshalton Girls, Carshalton Boys, Cheam High, Nonsuch,
Greenshaw
PSHE lessons in Cheam High, Oaks Park
Leading Cus in Cheam High (3), Overton Grange. Carshalton Girls, Sutton Grammar
Assemblies in Cheam High, Overton Grange
And, wonderfully, brand new Cus in Greenshaw and Carshalton Boys. seeing significant interest
in the school. especially amongst teachers!
CHURCHES
I have spoken at Wallington Baptist. Wallington Methodist, North Cheam Baptist. Worcester Park
Baptist, Christchurch Sutton, Holy Trinity Wallington and St Paul's Cheam. Our giving from
churches has increased this year, and we marvel at what God has done through our friends all
over the borough, as our prayer base has seen a corresponding rise in interest and membership.
NEXT YEAR
We've seen our most experienced member of staff, Sarah, leave to start a new role with her
church, and we've realigned our current staff as follows.

Maisie has now been appointed the full time Primary Schools Lead, and Abby has added Primary
Schools Support to her Assemblies responsibilities.
I (Simon) have now assumed the full responsibility for Secondary Schools, and remain in post as
Director.
We've streamlined our staff, but, having increased the number of active volunteers in all areas,
we're confident that we can maintain and even grow the quantity of delivery. Maisie and Abby
have redesigned our primary package with the intention of encouraging schools to book smaller
slots focused on each year group, which will mean the team can reach even more children over
the year. We've already seen evidence that this approach will reap dividends as we have already
got bookings from more schools than previously, 12 confirmed so far, and we are confident that
we will speak the name of Jesus even more effectively as a result.
Having grown Easter Experience with the addition of new venues, we believe we can offer 32
schools an opportunity to attend next year! May the story of Jesus be heard by more and more.
And our secondary programme is rapidly filling up. Sutton Grammar are having the GSUS delivery
in September once again, Oaks Park and Cheam High are filling our diary from late September
right through to late November with PSHE bookings, and our other regular partners are all looking
to find spaces for us to come and in work with them.
One really exciting new venture is that we've been invited, yes, invited. by Carshalton Boys to
assist at their Summer School for new year 7 boys in August. We've been asked to present to the
whole group, and advertise the CU (Engage) so that new boys are encouraged to attend in the
new academic year!
And we're entering into a new partnership with Good News for Everyone (formerly Gideons) who
are generously supplying us with Bible so that we can offer them out at our sessions in all schools.
As we close off this year, we are all genuinely excited aboul what God has in store for us next
year. We see so much evidence of His hand at work, and have been overjoyed on so many
occasions when we hear stories of individuals coming closer to Him, and seeking His grace,
forgiveness and eternal life. That's what we're about. bringing the name of Jesus into our schools
so that every student and staff member can consider Him for themselves, and turn their hearts to
Him.

Priorities for next year- 2025 126
SSW priorities for next year:.
1. Continue to deliver and develop Primary assemblies to the highest standard,
engaging in more schools. and increasing the number of volunteers involved.
2. Embed Maisie in her adapted role as Primary Schools worker, continuing to
deliver our high quality workshops. Integrate Abby as she adopts the adapted
role of Primary Schools Assemblies Lead (and Primary Support), and enable
both of them to develop a working practice that maximises their individual
strengths and abilities, yet combines them effectively together.
3. Integrate our new style of Primary workshops. offering shorter. year-based
sessions, seeking to engage with more schools as a result.
4. Increase the number of schools that attend Easter Experience and
consequently the number of pupils, exceeding last year's totals of 31 and 2300
respectively.
5. Continue to support our provision of Christian Unions in Secondary Schools,
and to develop new ventures around the borough that provide opportunities for
Christian pupils to engage with and encourage each other, and for them to
appropriately evangelise to their friends.
6. Increase our prayer support around the borough, engaging with new
supporters and churches, through speaking at church services, local events,
newsletter and prayer updates.
7. Maintain our presence on SACRE, delivering a voice for SSW within a pan-
borough network.
8. Increase the number of schools actively engaging with our LIVE project.
9. Develop our partnership with Counties UK to deliver GSUS in more schools.

Trustees, Report
The Trustees submit their report together with the financial statements for the year ended 31st
August 2025. The report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to
companies entitled to the small companies, exemption, including the exemption from preparing a
strategic report.
Structure, Governance and Management
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited
company. limited by guarantee. as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Public Benefit
In planning the activities of the Company, the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission's
guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the
advancement of religion.
Directors and Trustees
Directors (who are also trustees of Sutton Schools Christian Workers Trust for the purposes of
charity law) are elected for a period of 3 years and are eligible to stand for re-eleclion.

Fundraising Activities
Sutton Schools Christian Workers Trust relies on the kind donations from individuals, local
churches, trust funds and schools to fund its charitable activities.
Financial Review
The financial position of the charity is set out in the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance
Sheet and related notes, which have been prepared in accordance with statutory requirements of
the Charities Act 2011 and SORP (FRS102).
The financial statements have been prepared on the going concern basis as in the opinion of the
Trustees there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue.
Recruitment and Appointment of New Trustees
New Trustees are elected by the existing Trustees.

Reserves Policy
The Trustees review the level of reserves at the beginning of each financial year and have
determined that the appropriate level of free reserves should be sufficient to meet three months
operating expenditure should the charity experience a significant drop in income, this equates to
£27,394. Additional reserves are also needed to replace fixed assets at the appropriate time.
At the end of the year unrestricted funds were £110,638 {2024 - £139,510).
Risk Assessment
In April 2025 the major risks facing the charity were reviewed and any necessary steps have been
taken to lessen these risks.
The key risk identified was the uncertainty of income - The Trust monitors the income and with a
Director of Charitable Activities, have a permanent person who is responsible for generating the
necessary funds.
Activities
The main activities of the company are the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with
the Statement of Beliets, particularly amongst children and young people in the schools, colleges
and other educational establishments in the London Borough of Sutton, and the advancement of
education in accordance with Christian principles.
Volunteers
The Trustees gratefully acknowledge the valued work undertaken again by volunteers during the
year. Their input has significantly reduced the running costs of the company. These include..

3. Church representatives
With the help of the above. the supporters in finance and prayer, and those who attended the
annual service and prayer meetings, the company has continued to achieve its aims this year.
Review of the Year
The Trust made a deficit of £29.141 in the year (2024 surplus of £94,177) and we continue to build
on the wonderful foundations laid by previous workers and increase the reach of the charity in the
schools in Sutton.
The Trust has continued to enjoy the support of a large number of local Churches and individuals,
through the donation of finance and prayer support. The directors are very grateful to St Peter's
Church for providing new accommodation and would like to thank Cheam Methodist Church for
their generosity over the years for the office accommodation they provided which considerably
reduced the running costs of the company.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the company for the year
ended 31st August 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company
law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act,).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under
part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my
examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act
2011 ('the 2011 Act,). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by
the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm no matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:_
1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386

Accounting Policies
A summary of the more important accounting policies, which have been applied consistently,
is set out below.
a) Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity Lrnder
FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102)
'Accounting and reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable
to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019),,
Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the
UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The accounts have been
prepared under the historical cost convention.
b) Financial reporting standard 102- reduced disclosure exemption
The charity has taken advantage of the following disclosure exemption in preparing these
financial statements. as permitted by FRS 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland,:

c) Depreciation
Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost of tangible fixed assets by equal
annual instalments over their estimated useful lives at the following rates-

d) Incoming resources
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has
entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount
can be measured reliably.
Income tax recoverable in relation to donations re￿iVed under gift aid is recognised at
the time of donation.
e) Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation
committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic
benefits will be required in settlement and the amount and obligation can be measured
reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under
headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly
attributed to the particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis
consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
As a charitable company, Sutton Schools Christian Workers Trust is exempt from tax on
income and gains falling within section 505 of the Taxes Act 1988 or 9ection 256 of the
Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent tttat these are applied to its
charitable objects. No tax charges have arisen in the charitable company.
The charitable company is not registered for VAT and accordingly expenditure includes
VAT where appropriate.

g) Fund accounting
General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the
Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the company and which have not
been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by the
donors which have been raised by the company for particular purposes. The cost of
raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and
use of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.
h) Financial Instruments
The Company only has financial assets and liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic
financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction
value and subsequently measured at their settlement value.
i) Currency
The Company's functional and presentational currency is pounds Sterling (GBP).

Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due.
k) Creditors and provisions for liabilities and charges
Creditors and provisions for liabilities and charges are recognised at the amount that it is
anticipated they will be settled for.

Constitution of the Company
The company is limited by guarantee and is incorporated in England and Wales. Each member
undertakes to contribute a sum not exceeding £10 in certain circumstances as set out in clause
7 of the Memorandum of Association. At 31 st August 2025 the number of members was six

15 Pension Scheme
Defined Contribution Pension Scheme
Sutton Schoolswork contributes to a defined contribution pension scheme for its employees.
The pension cost charge for the period represents contributions payable by Sutton
Schoolswork to the respective scheme and amounted to £7,071 (2024: £6,293).
At the year end, contributions totalling £562 (2024.. £686) were payable to the scheme and
are included in other creditors.
