Trustees annual report ending March 2025

April 2024 – March 2025 has been a good year for us, we have continued to run the church, playcentre and foodbank and have been supported by local people and local businesses in the work that we do. We have welcomed a new trustee Mr Tando Bheku, who is a great new addition to the team.

However, this year as with the previous years was not without its challenges – the cost of living, rise in employment costs and the ever-increasing utility charges have had a big impact on our finances. We continually look for grant help and funding opportunities to help us meet these costs and keep our ministries going and have been successful in several grants over this period.

Church

We continue to run church services every Sunday morning, this year also trying different things to get more people from the community involved, we trialled family services on a Sunday evening which is something we are continuing to look at and understand what would best serve the community. This year we have had five family services.

In previous years we have had one house group on a Wednesday evening, this year upon starting to look at the book of Romans we moved to two house groups, one on a Tuesday and one on a Wednesday evening. Services continue to be regularly attended, and we continue to see visitors and new people joining us.

We have hosted movie nights, where local families can come into the church and watch a film, and socialise with others. We also ran a Light Party to offer an alternative to Halloween including family fun games and food, which families from the local area attended.

We had two Carol services at Christmas, the one in the evening had a mix of Carols, readings, a message and introduced puppets for the first time. The morning one focused on traditional carols with readings and a message. Both were well attended, with regulars and guests enjoying the use of our café and play centre afterwards.

We had great services on Mothers Day with all ladies who attended receiving a flower and Fathers day where we served Waffles to all who attended and gave the men gifts.

We had a few special services, one a baby dedication where we welcomed lots of guests and another a baptismal service in which we baptised four people. We also held our usual Remembrance Sunday service and had a visiting speaker from Destiny Church Pastor Ben.

We had summer church outings including a picnic, BBQ’s, walks, fish and chip supers, Crazy Golf and other events.

Our Pastor continues to connect with the local schools and has a great relationship with them; he also goes into schools to take assemblies.

Overall, we have enjoyed a successful and fruitful year and continue to look for ways of reaching people in our community to develop relationships and increase the awareness of who we are and why God has placed us here.

Ultmate Kids Play Centre

Our Soft Play Centre continues to be very popular bringing in new families. We had four part time workers over this period, two who ran the midweek sessions and two who did the parties. It continues to bring in money that contributes to the financial running of the whole work of the church. Our parties continue to be popular and are a big contributor to the funding of our community commitments.

We used our facility to host brownies and rainbows for special outings/treats for these local community groups, plus we were able to facilitate ‘special Needs’ events. We have had several school groups use the play centre too.

At Christmas we did three Tea Times with Santa that brought in lots of children and families, the children were able to have some food, play and meet and receive a gift from Santa.

We are continuing to look at more ways to advertise the play centre to try and reach more new customers and continue to bring in income to support our wider community work.

Foodbank

We continue to support the local community meeting the challenge of the current economic difficulties that many in our community are facing. Our Foodbank continues to distribute Food parcels to families, the lonely and older people. In this year we will have distributed over 6,000 food hampers. We have a great group of volunteers who regularly support this work.

We continued with our Christmas Joy Appeal this year co-ordinating Christmas presents for children in need. It is a time consuming and very busy time yet very rewarding. This year over 2000 presents were sent out. We also sent out Festive Food Hampers around 160 were distributed on Christmas Eve, with a host of volunteers helping collect, pack and deliver them all out.

This has continued to be made possible by some grant funding we have received this year as well as the ongoing support from the Parish council and local people and businesses who donate food and finances to us.

We have continued our partnership with our local Lidl; who have provided us with much needed supplies as well as being supported by Lidl and Aldi stores around the local area. We have also been able to connect with other local supermarkets, Morrisons, Tesco and the Co-Op. There are a couple of local schools and bakeries that also provide supplies to the foodbank.

Harvest Festivals were hosted at many of our local Schools in which we attended to offer ministry and to receive foods donated by the parents. Our local High School did some fund-raising events and raised finances and donated lots of foods too! The Pastor was invited into the school to talk about the Food Bank and the help it offers to those who are struggling.

We had some signage added to our van this year so that we had more ways to promote the work that we do, we also attended an event at the Town Hall and ran a stall to raise money for the work we do as well as to raise awareness and recruit more volunteers.
