This**<br>**cost £650,000 of which we provided**<br>**£325,000. Prior to this the Heart Unit was**<br>**the only one of its size in the country**<br>**without a Research Centre. Obtaining the**<br>**research facility will enable the**<br>**Cardiothoracic Unit to become an**<br>**internationally recognised centre of**<br>**excellence. The money raised will finance**<br>**a leading edge facility which will include**<br>**a dedicated clinical setting for patients in**<br>**research trials .**<br>**During the year under review we agreed**<br>**to finance part of the overspend on the**<br>**provision of the Research Centre,**<br>**providing £60,000, paid in January 2024.**|
