ACCOUNTING POLICIES
(a)
Basis of preparation
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been
prepared in accordance with the Charitie5 SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities..
Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance
with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective
l January 20191, and the Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, The financial statements have been prepared under the
historical cost convention.
Fund atcounting
Unrestricted general funds are those funds which are available for use at the discretion of the
trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the school fund and which have not been
designated for other purposes.
Designated funds comprise unrestritted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular
purposes.
The aim and use of each material fund is set out in the notes to the financial statement5.
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restriction5 imposed by
donors or which have been raised by the school fund for particular purposes. The cost of raising and
administering such funds are charged against the specific fun(l.
The main income and expenditure of the fund relates to the organisation of school trips, including
foreign visits. Money is collected from the pupils and payments made to the relevant travel
companies etc.
There are a number of trips that take place each year. Money is collected in advance from pupils prior
to the visit taking place. This results in a timing difference (amounts received in advance) for accounts
purposes. Under UK accounting rules and the charity 50RP, this income is deferred into next year
where it is matched against the related expenditure when the relevant trip takes place.
The same principle applies to payments made in advance of trips taking place le.g. depositsl. Such
expenditure is prepaid into the forthcoming year where the trip is scheduled to take place beyond
the current year end.

Incoming resources
All incoming resources are included in the SOFA when the school fund is legally entitled to the income
le.g. when a trip or activity has occurredl and the amount can be quantified with reasonable
accuracy.
Gifts in kind (including volunteer timel cannot be meaningfully quantified and are therefore excluded
from the financial statements.
Investment Income
On the grounds of prarticality and materiality, investment income is accounted for in the period
received.
(el
Resources expended
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis li.e. when the obligation to pay becomes
uncondition21, such as when a trip or event has occurred) and has been classified under headings that
aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular
headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with use of the resources.
Fund-raising costs are those incurred in seeking voluntary contributions and do not include the costs
of disseminating information in support of the charitable activities.
Support costs are those costs incurred directly in support of expenditure on the objetts of the school
fund and include project management carried out at Headquarters.
Management and administration costs are those incurred in connection with administration of the
school fund and compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements.
All costs include attributable VAT, which cannot be recovered.
{fl
Taxation
No provision for taxation is included in the financial statements as the school fund is exempt from
tax.

Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis as the trustees believe that no
material uncertainties exist. The trustees have considered the level of funds held and the expected
level of income and expenditure for 12 months from authorising these financial statements. The
budgeted income and expenditure is sufficient with the level of reserves for the charity to be able to
continue as a going concern.
