Annual Report 2023-2024 Haven in Romania

The year began with concerns about the finances of the charity, but I am pleased to say that response to the concern of the Trustees was met with increased giving both from the parents of the children at the Day Centre and, following a very positive Supporters Afternoon Tea event, from donors working and living in the UK. One key move during the year has been the appointment of Gary Baker as the Treasurer of Haven in Romania. This was due to the failing health of Sylvia Brown who has faithfully looked after our finances for many years. We thank Sylvia for all she has done and for all that she continues to do for the charity. We also thank Gary for his willingness to take on this role.

Two key visits were made to Piatra Neamt and the Day Centre during the year. Trustees Aubrey Cardy and Arthur Moir together with our new Treasurer, Gary, visited the Day Centre in February and a very profitable Trustees Meeting was help during the visit. It was good to see how the work was progressing and just how motivated the staff were. Later in the year, Dr Maggie Wilson and Dee Noble visited to provide specialist support and advice to staff members and parents. A further visit by the Trustees was planned to take place in October to coincide with the 20[th] Anniversary of the opening of the Day Centre. Our grateful thanks to Monica Tifrea and her staff for the amazing work they are doing to provide quality education and support to our wonderful students.
