Gantry Youth Theatre AGM Chairs Report – 27[th] April 2021

What an unprecedented year this has been, and I know we have all heard that word used so many times since March last year. There have been some difficult times throughout 2020. We are not able to perform our planned shows High School Musical and Honk to an audience, which have been delayed since last year.

Covid-19 and lockdowns have had a negative effect on Gantry’s income and for the tutor team and children’s mental health, but I am so proud of everyone’s enthusiasm to keep going. During this time, we have really shown our moto to be all inclusive and feeling like a family. We are all in this together!

I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the tutors and assistants who have kept going even when times were difficult to ensure the children still had something to look forward too even though as we know Zoom calls just aren’t the same as being face to face.

Thank you to the Committee who helped rally round and supported Gantry when we went through an exceedingly difficult and dark time and the possibility of having to close Gantry.

Thank you to Ness and Donna for making personal sacrifices to help keep Gantry financially afloat by taking wage cuts and furloughing.

Thank you to the parents and guardians for your continued support and kind donations.

And finally, the Gantry children who in their most strange and toughest time continued to turn up and support Gantry and be the most amazing inspiration I have seen. Without everyone’s help and support we would not be here today, and I am grateful and proud to be your Chairperson and I hope I can continue with this role for the next year.

Despite the negatives of 2020 we have had some positives for the start of 2021. We have been successful in grants from Sylvia Waddilove Foundation, Coop Community Funds and Tesco’s Bags for Help. We are also looking forward to our next performance Shrek the Musical and our holiday workshops.

And finally, it is good to see and welcome everyone back in person and hope that this now continues without any disruption.
