Little Willows Preschool Chair’s Report – 17[th] July 2023 Authored by Rachel A. Robinson – Chair
During my last Chair’s report to the AGM, I spoke about the challenges we had faced and overcome throughout 21/22, as the last effects of the Covid Pandemic were being felt and we said goodbye to our long-standing manager, Sarah. And whilst 22/23 has not been without its challenges, we have had a lot to celebrate.
This year, we have welcomed Devenne, Mel and Mary to Little Willows. All have settled in over the year and become valued members of the team. Going forwards into the next academic year, we will hopefully be welcoming our new Apprentice Practitioner to the team. Through this we hope to further cement our relationship with West Suffolk College and support more young people into Childcare.
Yet again we have been incredibly well supported by the Community. At Eastertime, we gratefully received funding from the Town Farm Trust which enabled us to refresh some of the furniture in the setting. This has allowed us to continue to develop our approach toward creating a positive learning environment for the Children. The Walsham Wild Wood steering group purchased an equipment trolley on our behalf in support of the Forest School. Abley managed by Joanne and the team, the Forest School aims to develop the children’s skills through nature and build an awareness and appreciation of the environment. The scheme is very well respected and thought of by the Wild Wood team.
Towards the end of term, we finally had our long-awaited Ofsted inspection. Whilst we are unable to share the outcome of the inspection more widely at this point, we are confident we will receive a positive report. The work that the whole team have put into preparing for the Ofsted inspection was second to none. Led by our manager Kylie, the Ofsted inspection went smoothly with all staff handling their individual meetings confidently and calmly. As the Chair of the Committee, the feedback I received from our Inspector made me incredibly proud, albeit not surprised! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for the incredible commitment and dedication they give to Little Willows, our children and all the families. We hope you know just how much it is appreciated!
We are unfortunately saying goodbye to two of our long standing Committee members. Creena Hancock and Emily Masters have handled the treasury positions at Little Willows together for 5 and 7 years respectfully. Given the funding streams and processes we are obliged to follow, this is no mean feat! On behalf of all of the Committee and staff at Little Willows, we would like to say a huge Thank You for the time and dedication you have both given to the setting over the years.
After 2 years, I will also be stepping down as Chair of the Committee, and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support throughout my tenure. I’d like to wish the incoming Committee Members luck and I look forward to watching the preschool develop ever further.
