Para 1.20 During this period the Church has seen
modest growth in its numbers at all three
sites where we conduct Christian Worship
Services.
We have helped a number of families
through our partnership with Christians
Against Poverty in the Swindon
Community.
We have also been at the forefront of
initiatives under the Good News for
Swindon network promoting the working
together of Christian Churches in the town
to worship together, co-operate on serving
the great town of Swindon and its people
with social action projects that include
areas such as youth ministry, homeless
shelters, food banks etc.
Our new church in thePenhillarea
continues albeit via zoom for some of the
time due to the COVID pandemic. We
started our normal face to face services
outdoors from April and as restrictions
eased within the building as Government
regulations allowed – with face masks etc.
All our churches followed a similar pattern
with most support provided via zoom
online.
Our senior leader resigned just prior to this
reporting period and took up employment
elsewhere. The local churches continue to
be led by those appointed, some are
salaried and others lead them on a bi-
vocational basis.

Swindon isno longera part of the
Assemblies of God in Great Britain, since
7thMay 2019 having taken the decision
locally to become an independent church.
We retain however the same practices
locally that have always governed our
charity. The chairman of the charity is the
senior minister, but he may delegate that
responsibility with the permission of the
other trustees. The senior minister is
responsible for leading the charity overall,
but each local church is run by a minister
appointed to that role. The church is
governed practically and financially by the
Church Council who are the trustees of the
charity and one member is based at each
church location to represent their needs to
the charity.

practically and financially by Discovery
Church Swindon.
Relationship with any
related parties
Para 1.51 Good News for Swindon is a relational
network of church and Christian
organisational leaders who operate in the
town of Swindon. We are a core part of this
network.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Discovery Church Swindon

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Discovery Church Swindon

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of Discovery Church Swindon (the Trust) for the year ended 30 November 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Tangible fixed assets

Freehold property - not provided

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Hire purchase and leasing commitments
