Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
See attached annual report to members 2021 has been a year of recovery following the previous year, which was dominated by the coronavirus pandemic. Building on the lessons learnt during 2020 we continue live-streaming of our Sunday services, enabling access from locations near and far, whilst now holding the Sunday service within the church (within our community). Whilst holding our mid week meetings online, enabling engagement without travel (or indeed heating the main church).
Worship, teaching, prayer, fellowship and holy communion have continued in various formats and the contributions of church members have been inspiring. We are grateful to those volunteers who faithfully maintain the website, lead LiFE groups, contact the elderly, answer the church phone, send out messages, maintain the building, facilitate missions support, handle the finances, produce risk assessments and vital documents, monitor safeguarding, plan and prepare, lead musical worship, and are handling the growing demands of technology! It all adds up to a host of tasks that keep church happening.

Introduction
The Mission Statement of Ivy Church a^empts to capture the essence of the “Objects” above. Thus Ivy Church is “Passionate about Jesus Christ and making Him known; Serving our neighbours, near and far.” Our meeSngs and acSviSes aim to express this. EnthusiasSc and sincere worship, prayer, fellowship and bible-teaching moves us into acSon in sharing the love of God in pracScal ways. Ivy Church is a warm and welcoming community of people of all ages and a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and seeks to bring that warm and broad welcome to all people in our locality (and even further afield - especially by the use of technology). Our endeavours include support for a variety of causes in the wider world, supporSng missions which provide health care, food, medical and other pracScal support, and facilitaSng training and educaSon. It is the tesSmony of Ivy Church that, “This is Ivy Church is a registered Charity, Number 1050613; a member of the Evangelical Alliance; Assemblies of God (UK) and Churches Together.

how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” Jn 3.16,17 NLT.
The year 2021
The year began in much the same mode as the previous one, being dominated by covid-19. Great care has been taken to maintain a safe environment for public worship and to maintain fellowship by means of cloud-based conferencing and Social media. RestricSons have gradually eased and we are finding our way forward in a Sme of the ‘new normal.’ We conSnue to ‘broadcast’ our services but thankfully we are able now to welcome everyone in person to our Sunday services. We have been sad to lose some valuable members, and to stand with those who have lost loved ones, but comforted in the assurance that they have been, ‘promoted to glory.’ We have been pleased to welcome a number of visitors through the year and some have decided to make Ivy Church their Spiritual home.
As ever, we have been immensely grateful to those who have faithfully served in so many ways. This year we are expressing parScularly appreciaSon of our Treasurer and Elder in Ivy Church Council. He has served faithfully and expertly over many years and we owe him a huge debt of graStude. Thank you Dave!
We are now gradually pushing forward with our endeavours to reach beyond our four walls, with a variety of acSviSes, geared to advancing the ChrisSan faith, including country walks, picnics, li^er-picking & improving our local environment, Good Friday walk-of-witness, Pentecost on College Green, “God Loves you Tour” with evangelist Franklin Graham. We are about to launch “Ivy-Tots” and look forward to welcoming families from the community. Later in the year it is hoped to hold a 12 week ‘Alpha Course’ for those interested in invesSgaSng the ChrisSan faith. A potenSal area for serving our neighbours is through volunteering in various ways at the Bristol Churches Winter Night Shelter.
We are grateful to God and thankful to all church embers who have been faithful in supporSng with their presence, enthusiasm, parScipaSon, giving and prayer.
REPORTS :
LiFE Groups, someSmes called home groups, care groups, cell groups...

Philippa
Fishponds Life Group
During 2021 our house group has continued to meet online via zoom (7 of us), every other week. Over this past year we have completed our studies on Acts and moved on 2 books from “Life builder books”, initially looking at David, Developing a heart for God and then onto Listening to God.
We have enjoyed good fellowship and prayer whilst exploring the scriptures. We plan to continue to meet online, as this works for all of us.
Sunday School /Youth Report
Sunday School :
Over the last year we have focused on coming out of lockdown and families returning to church. We express our gratitude to Shirley for inspiring the young people weekly with stories and crafts to maintain their interest whilst numbers were still restricted at church. Since July 2021 we have been able to welcome families back into the building. The main changes are that we are currently only providing a regular Sunday school class for the younger age group with the older youth now taking an active role as helpers for Sunday school or helping with IT and tech and they have been a great blessing in these areas. The other major change came in the form of Spencer stepping down from both Sunday school and youth activities at the end of October 2021. However God always provides and we are blessed to have welcomed both Abi and Shami as additional members of our Sunday school teaching team. The highlight of the year has to be the carol service where the children got the chance to rehearse their nativity play and meet together at the church as well as bless us all with their performance on the actual day. Over this next year we aim to try and get the older youth more involved in worship with the aid of both Jane and Freddy. We want to be inclusive so will still be sharing activities on zoom with children who are unable to attend church.
Youth Group
We continue to run both Golden Swords for the 4-10 year olds on a Thursday evening and Prism for aged 10+ on a Friday evening via zoom. The groups are comprised of mainly church children. However we were able to have a cinema trip with the older youth over the October half term, which enabled those who wanted to an opportunity to invite their friends. Both groups focus on fun and fellowship. In Golden swords the children learn memory verses from the bible each week as well as themed activities. This last term we have been looking at the book of Genesis and delving into the lives of the characters that make up that book so over time the children will become more familiar with where to Pind different stories within the bible. The older youth have also been doing themed studies looking at the life of Joseph and different types of

friendship throughout the bible. We are currently looking at Easter, debunking some of the myths and looking at Christ!s journey from the garden of Gethsemane to his glorious resurrection. We are grateful to both Shami Mahari and Anne James for also coming on board to help lead the older group. We hope to be able to bring the children together for some more face-to-face activities later in the year

Buildings
The church house continues to be rented out to Jim and Louisa and has received only minor updates/repairs (downstairs wc, new kitchen hod and new thermostat).
The church has mainly received updates to its IT system, enabling zoom from the church building, this gives us the opportunity to meet together even if we are stuck at home, additionally it allows anyone anywhere to join us, all they need to do is request the link.
The building fabric continues to present challenges, in addition to routine maintenance (gas, elec and fire/alarm) the church rear west roof has been sealed to prevent leaks with and ongoing need to re-felt it for the longer term, quotes have been received although finding reliable roofers continues to be a challenge. If you would like to be part of the buildings team please contact a member of the church council.

Ivy Church Accounts for 2021. AGM report
-
Giving decreased very slightly by 1.2%
-
Thank you to all those who have continued to give regularly online or by standing order. This has been remarkable and has been fundamental to maintaining our financial strength.
-
Ivy Church (it’s people!) are very generous.
-
Gift Aid income for the year was £11654
-
Our total cash assets are very healthy at £132268. However, the pandemic still poses risks to our income as it changes folks’ circumstances as well as other circumstances changing for other individuals.
-
Costs for gas, electricity, water continued to be low but are likely to increase with increased use of the building as well as the sharp rise in utility tariffs.
-
Bank charges also remain low with limited cash deposits as this is the main admin charge from bank.
-
Installation of new IT equipment has cost just over £20000. This has enabled the church to operate as a “hybrid church”
-
Overall spending for the year was down by just 2.8%
-
There was again a surplus at the end of the year of £7286
-
Please support Vernon in his role as Church Treasurer by your prayers and actions.

Ivy Missionary Report 2021
Looking back over 2021 it was a quiet year in terms of visits to Ivy by our missionary partners mainly due to Covid 19, but we have kept in regular contact with them through various social media means, including video links. We were able to have visits from Simon and Victoria Ewing in July and from the Bible Society in May which was a blessing.
In June 2021 we started to support Pastor Jacob, India Hope, regularly by sending £50.00 a month. Pastor Jacob and the team do a tremendous work caring for orphans, children living in poverty, widows, providing food for families, caring for those with leprosy and the elderly. In August we sent an addiSonal £400.00 towards the costs of some beds for the children, as the government changed the legislaSon, staSng that every child must have a bed to sleep on, which was a huge addiSonal cost to India Hope.
In May 2021 we reviewed the regular monthly giving to our missionary partners and are pleased to report that we were in a posiSon to increase our monthly giving to John and Liz Medcram, Brazil, from £25.00 a month to £50.00 a month and to Sasha and Sara Vitakic, Serbia, from £40.00 a month to £50.00 a month. Praise the Lord!
In addiSon to those we support regularly we have also given gims to The Leprosy Mission, Bible Society, World of Worth and Soul Winner – Boot Camp, which many of us a^ended via Zoom.
We receive regular newsle^ers from our missionary partners and if you are interested in receiving these or have a parScular interest in any areas, please do not hesitate to speak to us about it.
Please conSnue to pray for our missionary partners as they strive to share God!s love to those He has called them to, so that many more people may
We also want to say a huge #thank you!$to all of you who give so faithfully to enable us at Ivy to be a giving church and be part of spreading God!s Word to all people, far and near.
May the Lord conSnue to bless you!

16 of 17 FINANCE –
DC showed the monthly analysis:
-
£11,684 Gim Aid January and April.

Income over expenditure was £2257.
-
Income decreased by 4% over 2019.
-
Expenditure increased by 2%.
-
Cash assets were £124,981.
-
DC advised that we were in a strong posiSon to weather the current crisis, but warned that there sSll might be some future risks. He suggested that we must keep an eye on the potenSal risks, as we can’t assume that things won’t change (possible next year).
-
He thanked everyone for the posiSve response to the current situaSon.
He advised that last year (March), he moved £20k into the current account for emergencies, but this is sSll in the account if required.
He thanked people again for ensuring that giving was maintained during these Smes. He also advised that we have lost some gim aid under the small donaSon scheme, but not much.
He also advised that out uSliSes bills have come in cheaper as not much is being used, also, our bank charges have gone down by not dealing in cash. Also, our cleaning costs have risen, and a big thank you to EH for maintaining this going forward.
Finally, DC advised that Phil Bater has inspected our accounts to enable us to produce the report for the chariSes commission. The membership were unanimous in formally accepSng the accounts.

DC wanted to share with the membership, that he had previously advised the trustees that he wished to reSre from his Treasurer and Leadership duSes, so this is the last year that he will be dealing with the accounts. He advised that he has been the treasurer for the past 20 years, and 23 years on the Church Council. He advised that it felt like the right Sme to do this, but assured us that he wasn!t going anywhere, and would sSll be an acSve member in Ivy.
PW wished to honour DC on behalf of the church, and thanked him for his servant heartedness.
TRUSTEE APPOINTMENTS –
Sam was up for re-elecSon for elder. Pastor asked for a #thumbs up!$to re-elect him, and the verdict was unanimous.
THE FUTURE
PW advised us that COVID is a circumstance, not the thing which dominates our future. What should dominate is the gospel (what we are here for).
Methods: Let!s be adventurous. Technology has #dominated!, but it is a #means!$(one of the #ALL MEANS!). PW thanked those who have stepped up and helped, # ! onsite, and at home…..by all means to win some. He reminded us to all want to have a go .
Ourselves: Let!s be ready to look forward to the future and step up.
So – To Reopening:
Ivy church has many gimed people, so as God!s people, we should step up to our gimings, and see what we can do and be involved in. Leadership iniSaSve (under pastoral leadership), admin, finance, etc. We would be looking for #teams of people!$and small groups….!by all means to win some!. We need to exploit this Sme where people are more open to the gospel.
ing on 21[st] June actually means for the church. In the meanwhile, we aim to conSnue to broadcast and to record our services.
He advised that once back in the church, that the services would need to be concise and for us to just get to it. There are sSll discussions to be had on how to do Children!s Church, etc, and there may be a requirement to check for vaccinaSons/negaSve lateral flow tests. There will need to be some response from people to gauge numbers and to arrange seaSng so that families can be together.
The actual date for return will be discussed at the next Church Council meeSng in June.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINERS REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF IVY PENTECOSTAL CHURCH
I report on the accounts of the Charity (number 1050613) for the year ended 31 December 2021 which are set out on pages 1 -
Respective responsibilities of Trustees and examiner:
The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the act), as amended by s.28 of the Charities Act 2006 and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts (under section 43 of the Act, as amended;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the Act, as amended); and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report:
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement:
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
- proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 41 of the Act);
and
- accounts prepared agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act.
