Bethel Community Church – TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT
for year ending 31 March 2022
ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:
Bethel Community Church is a Pentecostal Church in Kenfig Hill and Maesteg situated in the County Borough of Bridgend.
Trustee Ray Duffy retired from his role as a trustee in Oct 2021 and Mr Gavin Duffy & Mrs Ceri Duffy were appointed as replacements.
The following is a list of Trustees for Bethel CC
Mr Alan Hutton-Davies,
Mr Des Duffy
Mr Gavin Duffy
Mrs Ceri Duffy
STRUCTURE, GOVERNACE AND MANAGEMENT:
Bethel Community Church is managed by pastoral oversight and supported by the trustees. To be a trustee it is a requirement for the person to be a member of the church.
The Trustees meet approximately 4 times a year when all are available. It deals with all the governance issues and with a variety of building and ministry matters over the year.
The church is part of the AoG UK and is overseen by the AoG apostolic leadership of Chris Vaz from Gateway Church Abergavenny, alongside Bethel’s Pastor Des Duffy and a Leadership team.
The church has continued to updated its Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies, GDRP and other policies.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES:
Bethel Community Church provides resources and facilities for public worship, pastoral care, spiritual, moral and intellectual development, both for its members and for those who wish to benefit from what the church offers.
Worship is an integral part of church activities both on a Sunday and midweek since it is paramount that the Lord Jesus Christ is central to our activities. The members of the church are also encouraged to support other churches in ministry when requested.
In addition to having a monthly service in two local care homes (currently still on hold due to covid), the church also supported local charities by fund-raising events and direct giving. Bethel CC is also committed to missions both home and abroad, financially, physically and in prayer.
Bethel CC normally holds an annual free fun day for the community in a local playing field, which is well supported. However once again, this year due to Covid restrictions the day did not take place.
Bethel CC normally holds a Children’s club for 7-11 year olds and 11-17 year olds on a Thursday in Kenfig Hill as well as a 4-6 and 7-11 year olds Clubs on a Monday evenings in Maesteg, where all participants gather for games and Bible talks.
Both the 4-6 & the 7-11 children's clubs are currently on hold due to covid 19 restrictions. However, the older 11-17 age group has continued on-line via zoom.
The Church normally meets in Kenfig Hill on a Sunday evening using a building owned by the charity, as well as having regular weekly meetings in Maesteg on a Sunday morning using a building rented from the Assemblies of God.
This has resulted in monies spent on repairs, modernisation, and equipment on both premises during the year.
For the most part of the year the churches were not opened to the public or congregation for Sunday worship due to covid 19 constrictions. But when permitted they opened during the week for prayer & food parcels to the community.
Sunday worship was streamed from home and when permitted from the church. This year the church has continued to develop an on-line presence for the congregation & the public. Our mid-week meetings were transferred to on-line meetings mainly via Zoom. These ventures have been reasonably successful.
The core of Bethel CC beliefs state that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he alone provides atonement for sin in his death and resurrection. The Holy Spirit is taught as being the third member of the Trinity and indwells the individual who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
During this year Bethel CC saw a small increase in numbers and the churches finances.
Our Tuesday Tea & toast outreach, which was open to anyone in the surrounding areas,
providing companionship, along with moral and spiritual support, has still not reopened due to covid 19 legislation.
There has been some changes to leadership personnel during the year, with the leaving of Mr Ray Duffy. The trusteeship would like to thank Ray for all his hard work, and wish him the very best in his new venture
FINANCIAL REVIEW:
Income: £35,900 which is a 20.34% increase in church income.
Expenditure: £39,633 which is a 6.4% increase in expenditure (This includes £2716.42 exp for storm damage paid out in the last month of the year to be claimed back via insurance in the following year).
Before the unfortunate storm damage expenditure growth sat @ 0.89%
Outstanding liabilities £4,038
Cash on hand of £6024
The church has a policy of not spending beyond its means but equally not
accruing excess funds, which could otherwise be used for the furtherance of the gospel.
