## **Bethel Community Church – TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT for year ending 31 March 2021**

## **ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:**

Bethel Community Church is a Pentecostal Church in Kenfig Hill and Maesteg situated in the County Borough of Bridgend.

The following Trustees were appointed by Pastor John Marshall who officially retired as a Trustee and Minister on March 12[th] March 2019

Mr Alan Hutton-Davies,

Mr Des Duffy

Mr Ray Duffy

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNACE AND MANAGEMENT:**

Bethel Community Church is managed by pastoral oversight and supported by the trustees. To be a trustee it is a requirement for the person to be a member of the church.

The Trustees meet approximately 4 times a year when all are available. It dealt with a variety of building and ministry issues over the year.

The church is part of the AoG UK and is overseen by the AoG apostolic leadership of Chris Vaz from Gateway Church Abergavenny, alongside Bethel’s Pastor Des Duffy and an Eldership team.

The church has updated its Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies, as well introduced a new GDRP policy.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES:**

Bethel Community Church provides resources and facilities for public worship, pastoral care, spiritual, moral and intellectual development, both for its members and for those who wish to benefit from what the church offers.

Worship is an integral part of church activities both on a Sunday and midweek since it is paramount that the Lord Jesus Christ is central to our activities.the members of the church are also encouraged to support other churches in ministry when requested.

In addition to having a monthly service in two local care homes (currently on hold due to covid), the church also supported local charities by fund-raising events and direct giving. Bethel Community Church is also committed to missions both home and abroad, financially, physically and in prayer.

Bethel Community Church normally holds an annual free fun day for the community in a local playing field, which is well supported. However this year due to Covid restrictions the day did not take place.

Bethel Community Church holds a club for 7-11 year olds and 11-17 year on a Thursday in Kenfig Hill as well as a 4-6 and 7-11 year olds Clubs on a Monday evenings in Maesteg, where all participants gather for games and Bible talks. Both the 4-6 & the 7-11 children's clubs were cancelled due to covid 19 regulations. However the older 11-17 age group has continued on-line via zoom

Bethel Community Church Normally meets in Kenfig Hill on a Sunday evening using a building owned by the charity. The Church also normally meets in Maesteg on a Sunday morning using a building rented from the Assemblies of God. This has resulted in monies spent on repairs, modernisation and equipment during the year. The churches for the most part of the year were not opened to the public or congregation for Sunday worship due to covid 19 constrictions. But when permitted they opened during the week for prayer & food parcels to the community. Sunday worship was initially streamed from home and when permitted from the church. This year the church has developed an on-line presence for the congregation & the public. All mid week meetings were transferred to on-line meetings mainly via Zoom. These ventures have been very successful.

The core of Bethel Community Church beliefs state that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he alone provides atonement for sin in his death and resurrection. The Holy Spirit is taught as being the third member of the Trinity and indwells the individual who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Bethel Community Church during this period saw a decline in numbers and finances and sadly had to close a well supported Tea and Toast community activity in both locations. These were open to anyone in the surrounding areas, providing companionship, along moral and spiritual support. They have only temporarily closed until covid 19 legislation permits us to reopen.

This year the church has had to continue to deal with retirement of two of its long standing Pastors, Mr John Marshall & Mr David Glave, both due to ill health. There has also been some more changes to Eldership personnel during the year.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW:**

Income from all sources £29,833 Expenditure £37,278

Outstanding liabilities £5,079 with cash on hand of £9,002

The church has a policy of not spending beyond its means but equally not accruing excess funds, which could otherwise be used for the furtherance of the gospel.
