Senior Leaders & Trustees Report September 2024 – August 2025

This year marks a significant chapter in Eden’s journey; one of steady growth, deepening maturity, and courageous preparation for what lies ahead.

We have seen increased attendance, meaningful theological development behind the scenes, and the laying of foundations for substantial governance and structural change. More than anything, this has been a year of positioning. We are aiming to aligning ourselves more closely with who we believe we are called to be.

1. Structure, Governance and Management

Eden Church is operated under the rules of its constitution and trust deed adopted on 10 April 2006 as amended 22 March 2010. The Charity was registered with the Charity Commission under charity number 1050443, on 7 November 1995.

2. Objectives and Activities

The Objects of Eden Church are:

3. Centre Review

The centre has remained a vibrant hub of activity, serving approximately 400 regular users (down from 500 the previous year). This shift was largely due to one of our largest clients moving on following necessary pricing adjustments and increased Saturday usage to support Eden’s charitable objectives.

Despite this, the breadth and quality of our partnerships remain strong. Our clients — including home education groups, fitness communities, civic organisations, local businesses, and the NHS reflect our holistic vision:

A key development this year was the introduction of a Client Liaison Officer, significantly improving communication and streamlining our booking systems.

We extend heartfelt thanks to Keith, Eileen, and Carolyn for their continued dedication in supporting Joel and serving our clients with excellence.

4. Church Life

i) Community

Community continues to be at the heart of Eden. Increasingly, people are not just attending — they are belonging . Our partner base continues to grow year on year, reflecting a deepening sense of shared life.

From bonfire gatherings to Christmas celebrations, we have intentionally cultivated rhythms that foster connection, joy, and shared identity.

This year also saw the launch of our YouTube and Instagram platforms, extending our reach and enabling us to contribute to wider conversations around the future of Church. Early engagement has been encouraging, and we see significant potential for growth in this area.

ii) The Lounge

Under the leadership of Jan Watts, the Lounge has become a thriving midweek space. Wednesdays and Thursday evenings now carry a consistent sense of energy and connection, offering many a place of belonging, wellbeing, and relational support.

iii) Gatherings

Our gatherings have remained focused on cultivating both the presence of God and the practical ways of Jesus.

Each series aimed to equip people not just with understanding, but with tools for everyday life — helping us navigate real challenges with a Jesus-shaped response.

Our extended series on Scripture invited us into a more honest and relational engagement with the Bible — not as a set of simple answers, but as a living text to wrestle with and be formed by. Perhaps most significant was our dialogue-led exploration of the future of Church . Together, we discerned potential directions, including:

This shared journey has positioned us well as we move toward clarity and decision in the coming year.

iv) Facility Developments

This has also been a year of tangible investment in our space:

These improvements reflect our commitment to being an accessible, intergenerational community.

Special thanks to Ian Forrester and Dave Alban for their oversight, and to Tony, Charlie, Dean, Matt, Graham, and Tasha for their invaluable contributions.

v) Moments of Celebration

We are deeply grateful to every individual who has served — whether through speaking, worship, hospitality, media, prayer, youth work, or behind-the-scenes support. Your contribution shapes the culture of Eden more than words can express.

vi) Kids & Youth

This year has seen significant progress in building a more inclusive and responsive environment for our young people.

Under Victoria’s leadership, alongside Joel and the wider team, we have:

This is not simple work — but it is vital. And we are seeing the fruit.

We remain committed to ensuring that children and young people are not just participants, but integral members of the Eden family.

vii) Midweek Groups

Our midweek rhythms continue to evolve.

These spaces are increasingly central to how we live out community beyond Sundays.

The Trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the charity commission in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

5. Financial Overview

This year net expenditure totalled £47,639 (2024 net income of £14,120).

The total funds held by the charity at the year end amounted to £241,349 (2024 £288,988) of which £111,138 are unrestricted funds (2024: £136,881), £82,566 are restricted funds (2024: £113,250) and £47,645 are designated funds (2024: £38,857).

Please refer to the attached financial reports for full details.

A reserves policy note is also required (example wording below)

It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds which have not been designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level equivalent to at least six month’s operating costs. The trustees consider that reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the charity’s current activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be raised. This level of reserves has been maintained throughout the year.

6. Looking Ahead (2025–2026)

The year ahead will be pivotal.

We are focusing on two key priorities:

1. “The Reset”

A new teaching series exploring both the challenges facing the Western Church and a renewed vision of what Church can be rooted in the life and way of Jesus.

This will be both theological and deeply practical, shaping how we live moving forward.

2. Governance & Structure

We will be undertaking a full review and update of our governing documents, alongside implementing a new operational and leadership framework.

This will culminate in the appointment of key roles, subject to church-wide agreement.

7. Thank You

This year has only been possible because of the faithfulness, generosity, and commitment of so many.

To our trustees, leadership team, volunteers, and the wider Eden family, thank you. Your investment of time, energy, and heart continues to shape something deeply significant.

We sense that we are standing on the edge of a defining season.

And above all, we give thanks to God for His guidance, His provision, and His presence among us.

We move forward with humility, expectation, and a renewed commitment to follow where the Holy Spirit leads.

Respectfully submitted, Mike Dibbens Senior Leader & Chair of Trustees

Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost
or net realisable value.
Goods or services provided as part of a charitable activity are measured at net
realisable value based on the service potential provided by items of stock.
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial
recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the
charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected
to be received.
Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on
the contract.
They are valued at fair value except where they qualify as basic financial instruments.
They are valued at cost.
They are valued at cost.
The charity has intangible fixed assets, that is, non-monetary assets that do not have
physical substance but are identifiable and are controlled by the charity through
custody or legal rights. The amortisation rates and methods used are disclosed in
note 15.
The charity has heritage assets, that is, non-monetary assets with historic, artistic,
scientific, technological, geophysical or environmental qualities that are held and
maintained principally for their contribution to knowledge and culture. The depreciation
rates and methods used as disclosed in note 16.
Investments held for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a
maturity date of less than 1 year are treated as current asset investments
This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable
can be measured reliably.
Insurance claims are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition
criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP) and are included as an item of other
income in the SoFA.
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:
• the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
• it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources;
• the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income
recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the
donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that
gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the
donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.
There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless
required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102.
Membership subscriptions which gives a member the right to buy services or other
benefits are recognised as income earned from the provision of goods and services as
income from charitable activities.
Membership subscriptions received in the nature of a gift are recognised in Donations
and Legacies.
AND LIABILITIES
The charity accounts for basic financial instruments on initial recognition as per
paragraph 10.7 FRS102 SORP. Subsequent measurement is as per paragraphs 11.17
to 11.19, FRS102 SORP.
Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of
the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably.
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or
constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of
the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
The depreciation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 14.
They are valued at cost.
No material item of deferred income has been included in the accounts.
A liability is measured on recognition at its historical cost and then subsequently
measured at the best estimate of the amount required to settle the obligation at the
reporting date
This is only included in the SoFA once the charity has provided the related goods or
services or met the performance related conditions.
The cost of any stock of goods donated for distribution to beneficiaries is deemed to be
the fair value of those gifts at the time of their receipt and they are recognised on
receipt. In the reporting period in which the stocks are distributed, they are recognised
as an expense at the carrying amount of the stocks at distribution.
Donated goods for resale are measured at fair value on initial recognition, which is the
expected proceeds from sale less the expected costs of sale, and recognised in
'Income from other trading activities' with the corresponding stock recognised in the
balance sheet. On its sale the value of stock is charged against 'Income from other
trading activities' and the proceeds from sale are also recognised as 'Income from
other trading activities'.
Goods donated for on-going use by the charity are recognised as tangible fixed assets
and included in the SoFA as incoming resources when receivable.
Donated goods are measured at fair value (the amount for which the asset could be
exchanged) unless impractical to do so.
The charity has received government grants in the reporting period
Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has
been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in
the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the
charity or have been met.

The charity has incurred expenditure on support costs.
This includes any realised or unrealised gains or losses on the sale of investments and
any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the
year.
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost
categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, eg allocating property costs
by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their
usage.
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support.
Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and
its compliance with regulation and good practice.
Donated services and facilities that are consumed immediately are recognised as
income with an equivalent amount recognised as an expense under the appropriate
heading in the SOFA.
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade
discounts
These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least
Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SoFA as income from donations
when receivable.
Fixed asset investments in quoted shares, traded bonds and similar investments are
valued at initially at cost and subsequently at fair value (their market value) at the year
end. The same treatment is applied to unlisted investments unless fair value cannot
be measured reliably in which case it is measured at cost less impairment.
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to
realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be
recognised.
The charity has investments which it holds for resale or pending their sale and cash
and cash equivalents with a maturity date less than one year. These include cash on
deposit and cash equivalents with a maturity of loss than one year held for investment
purposes rather than to meet short-term cash commitments as they fall due.

The charity made no redundancy payments during the reporting period.
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of
service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SoFA once the
recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output.
In the case of performance related grants, income must only be recognised to the
extent that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to
the grant only occurs when the performance related conditions are met (5.16 FRS 102
SORP).
The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is
described in the trustees’ annual report.
