The trustees have opted, under section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Charities Act’), to prepare receipts and payments accounts ## **Objectives and Aims** We believe that the world should hear the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross that we could have a new life and fresh start in him. We believe that Jesus still heals today and this message is and will continue to be taken to the nations. ## **Public benefit** The Trustees have considered the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and consider that the activities of the charity meet its charitable objectives and provide a benefit to the public. ## **Achievement and Performance** Organisations we supported: Acts 435: An online giving charity directly connecting those who want to give with those who are in genuine need of help. Skate Jam in Braunton: A one off event providing young people in North Devon a place to hang out and to receive encouragement in the sport of skateboarding. Christmas food parcels for a Charity in India providing the community with food. Amazon Mission; reaching unreached tribes with the good news of Jesus. Care for Calais refugee programme. North Devon House Prayer. Christians Against Poverty. At the beginning of lock down April 2020 We started a telephone service for the general public for those who were feeling anxious, worried, lonely or depressed. We did this by creating a logo and then adding a telephone number that people could call. We shared this advertisement on social media and via ‘One Barnstaple’. We also offered a delivery service for those who needed prescriptions or shopping picking up. At the beginning of lock down in March 2020 we innovatively changed our style and mode of delivery for church so that we could deliver it online for people to enjoy throughout lock down. We continued to deliver church online throughout the whole year. By doing this we were not only able to pray for those in need in a wider area (Worldwide) but we were also able to care for and encourage those who regularly attend Coastal Community Church for their spiritual needs. In addition to meeting online we also facilitated social engagement when the rules allowed by arranging picnics in the park. These were very well attended. We became a distributer for Foodbank vouchers. From the 15th March to 4th February 52 Foodbank vouchers were issued helping many families/individuals. We also applied for the Devon County Council prompt action funding, and we were able to secure two amounts of £650 and £495. We used this to help purchase food and for mileage for those who were delivering goods and services to those in lockdown and unable to get out. To locate those experiencing hardship we partnered with NDADA, Kids Matter (an award-winning parenting programme), Christians Against Poverty, South Street Foodbank, and contacts via our church. We also helped 23 adults and 23 children in total with food items. We gave NDADA (North Devon Against Domestic Abuse) (7 adults and 8 children) some food hampers for each family. We helped three households without children. Two testimonies below: “Thank you so much for the help offered by Coastal community church. Without the help my 4 children and I would really have really struggled due to having just moved house days before Christmas leaving me struggling financially. Page 1 **Coastal Community Church** ## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES** ## **for the year ended 30[th] April 2021** They are aged 11, 10, 7 and 10 months old and obviously depend on me and I felt I had let them down by not being able to provide for them properly. I can't put into words how appreciative we are of what your church has done for us and how grateful we are. especially me. I really can't thank you enough for such an act of kindness”. (Single mum with 4 children) “I am so grateful for this. Words can’t explain the difference this has made to me. I had no idea how I’d get through this week, let alone anything else. I have no family to turn to and losing my job has come as a huge blow to me as a single parent. I know I’m fortunate in having qualifications, which will enable securing a new job easier, yet it’s the period in between. If it wasn’t for this, I’d be in a very bleak situation. I felt somewhat guilty, in case certain things seemed a bit too extravagant, yet I have a daughter and son with dietary needs/ allergies, and we are Jewish! I have to be very specific in terms of certain foods and washing products, which can be a bit of a pain”. (Single mum with 2 children who had recently lost her job) We undertook monthly leadership training via zoom for those who attend Coastal Community church. We were able to invite some very wise, seasoned and knowledgeable leaders due to the fact that this was being conducted via zoom. We continued to deliver high quality connection and community within small groups during this year. We were also able to train two new connect group leaders. When we were able a team of people would regularly go out onto the streets of Barnstaple in the evenings and on Saturdays to connect and pray with people. Coastal Community Church led two ALPHA courses. This is a course designed to allow people the freedom and space to ask any questions they may have about the Christian faith in a relaxed environment. ## **Financial review** The trustees consider the financial performance by the charity during the year to have been satisfactory. The Statement of Financial Activities show net incoming resources for the year of a revenue nature of £146,693 (PY net outgoing £205,394.) ## **Reserves policy** The trustees have established a policy whereby the unrestricted funds not committed or invested in tangible fixed assets ('the free reserves') held by the Charity should be approximately six months of the resources expended. At this level the trustees feel that they would be able to continue the current activities of the Charity in the event of a significant drop in income. Unrestricted cash reserves held at the year-end amounted to £45,088 (PY £43,899) Page 2 **Coastal Community Church** **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the year ended 30[th] April 2021** ## **Structure, Governance and Management Governing document** The organisation is a registered charity governed by Constitution dates 12[th] August 1993 as amended on 9[th] August 2008 and 13[th] August 2010 New members are elected by the existing trustees to the board after nomination and interview. Financial reports are presented to the board at each meeting. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. Accounting Policies** ## **Basis of preparing the financial statements and assessment of going concern** These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis as permitted by law for smaller charities. The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern. ## **2. Trustee remuneration and benefits and third party interests** Andrea and Mark Rowan each received a salary under £10,000 during the year.
