Engage Southwest Trustees’ Report
The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements and independent examiners report of the charity for the year to 31 December 2020.
Structure, Governance and Management
Constitution
Engage Southwest is a registered charity operating as a Church in Fellowship with Assemblies of God. The governing document is a Constitution with Trust Deed for Local Assemblies of God.
The Church Council is appointed to oversee the management and control of the Church and its property and funds. The members of the Church Council shall be those persons who held office on the date of registration of the Constitution as a charity and thereafter, the Senior Minister and any other Ministers of the Church together with such persons appointed by the Church Council.
The Church Council members are defined as Trustees under Charity Law.
Objectives and Activities
Objects
The Objects of the Church are for the benefit of the public:

to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the Assemblies of God Statement of Faith and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time see fit;

to relieve sickness and financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including through the provision of counselling and support in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time see fit;

to advance education in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time see fit.
Public Benefit
The trustees have regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance
The main achievements of the Charity in the last financial year were:

Following the COVID-19 national lockdown in March 2020 services were moved online and when live services resumed in July 2020 several new people attended. Services moved back online in November 2020 with a live stream of the main Sunday Service, weekly children’s production and Zoom bible studies and prayer meetings.

During the COVID-19 pandemic the church has supported the welfare of its congregation, local community and overseas mission works including the provision of financial support, donations to the local food bank, volunteers helping shielding members of the congregation with shopping etc. and organising support bubbles for single people.

The church’s branch work in Saltash which was transferred to Greenbank Community Church in April 2020.
Financial Review
Most of the Charity’s income is obtained from the tithes and offerings from the Church congregation. In addition, the Charity received donations for specific projects and income from letting the Church buildings.
The accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis.
In the year ended 31 December 2020 total income of £116,000, was higher than expenditure of £109,495 by £6,505. Expenditure on human resources costs of £43,505 accounted for 40% of total expenditure. The Charity had carried forward restricted funds of £2,869 plus a further £14,816 of unrestricted reserves.
At 31 December 2020 the net book value of fixed assets was £612,823. The assets (which principally comprise of the freehold land and buildings) were used predominantly for promoting the Charity’s Objects.
Net cash inflow for the period was £6,505 leaving the Charity with cash funds of £17,685 on the 31 December 2020.
Reserves Policy
The policy of the Trustees is to maintain a level of reserves that will be adequate to provide a stable basis for the continuing activity of the Trust whilst ensuring that excessive funds

are not accumulated. Any restricted funds held will be used in accordance with the restrictions imposed which can often straddle more than one financial year.
The Trustees are satisfied that the balance of unrestricted reserves are sufficient for the Charity’s continuing activity.
Investment Policy
Investments must be made only in accordance with written procedures approved by the Trustees.
Funds Held as Custodian Trustee on Behalf of Others
There are no assets or arrangements held by the Trust.

Independent Examinerfs Report to the Trustees of Engage Southwest (Charity No.1050311) I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2020 which are set out on pages 5 to 6. Responsibilltles and basls of report As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,). I report in respect of my examination of the charity's a¢Unts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5){b) of the Act. Independent examinerfs statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect.. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
