Registered chority number 1050261 Mlnl 5crapbox Trustees Annual Report l Aprll 2025 to 31 March 2026 Building on the turnaround during the previous year, S¢rapbox has continued to thrive and grow. After posting a loss of over £8,000 last year Ithe fourth year of consecutive lossesl, S¢rapbox finished the year with a surplus of over £30,000. The Trustees are now able to prudently hold reserves of £20,000 to cover 3 months operating expensès. Remaining funds are available for reinvestment into the charity for the benefit ofthe eommunitv. Scrapbox met its target of saving IS tonnes of material from going into landfill in the calendar year 2025, The tsrget landfill saving for 2026 has been increased to 18 tonnes. Membership has also grown significantly and we now have almost 600 members and have sèen a substantial increase in day visltor5 paying £2 day membership to shop at Scrapbox. The total income from Membership covers our a nnual rent and business rates/buildin8 insurance meaning that we can keep prices low and offer greater value to our members. Serapbox now ha5 1 full-time employee and 3 part-time employees Coupled with around 40 volunteers. These volunteers are both shep and home workers and are vital to the on-going success of Scrapbox. During the year we have partnered with 3 new businesses who are providing regulèr donations of goods. Our message is spreading via word or mouth and social media and we are receiving a high volume of extremely useful donations across all aspects of art5 and crdfts and hornewares. Craft workshops ère growing in popularity as is the demand for Scrapbox to educate ehildren through junk modelling activities. We always carry a large supply of free goods to encourage this activity at home and regularly supply, fre¢ of charge, materia15 to schools, playgroups, and other chlld centric groups. With some of our surplus income, Scrapbox intends to make some disèbllity and eco improvements to our shop in term5 of access between the two sales units and a rnore efficient heating & ventilation system. We have 3 main goals for 2026127, narnely-. 11 Schools and children's groups 21 Work placement scheme 31 Serapbox mobile 11 Schools and children's groups Scrapbox aims to increase awareness about saving landfill by reusing and repurposing items that would otherwise be thrown into landfill. The best way to do this IS through education and training and where better to start than the future generation, Over the course of the year, we alm to recruit and train up to 5 volunteer Scrapbox Ambassador5. These Ambassadors will work alongside the Trustee5 and will represent Scrapbox at public events and, by invitation, with schools and other children'5 group. We will inform audiences on harm that ever growing landfills are having on our environment. We will influence thinking about, and instil change through example of. how items can be repurposed and reused with demonstrations of craft activities, up-cycling, and junk modelling. Thi5 will be a free service. 2) Work placement scheme Working in collaboration with the Charity New-u b35ed in Norwich, Scrapbox is looking to become a second site for their work experience scheme. This scheme offers individualised work experience placement5 to unemployed adults aged 18+ including those with low level mental health i55ue5, disabilities, and hidden disabilities, Offering a flexible and supportive envlronment designed to help individuals gain confidence and employability skills to progress towards work, education, tralning, or f urther volunteering. The work placements are tailored to the individual, working with the person to identify their strengths. A typical work placement lasts for 4-6 weeks, with 3 hours each week on a set day and time, either a morning or afternoon. Mentoring 5UPPOrt after the placement is offered from one ofth¢ Volunteer Mentor5 to SUPPOrt on80ing goals and next steps. 31 Scrapbox moblle Serapbox will be seeking grant funding to buy an electric van. This will enable u5 to offer collection service for bulk donations. Importantly, the van could be fitted out to allow Scrapbox to offer a mobile seNice - visiting different locations around Norfolk Ilike a mobile library) to make us rnore accessible for people without trénsport. After an 18 month period with substantial change and expansion, the Trustee5 are mindful that a period of mcre measured growth 15 important. With the focus on our three main goa15, It will be vital that appropriate safeguarding training, DBS checks, risk asse55ments and health and safety concern5 are paramount. It will a Iso look to encourage people to identify between items which can be correctly recycled in thè Council facilities provided and those items whi¢h would otherwise go into landfill - de-ernphasisin8 the acceptance of the former and emphasising the acceptance of the later. We have already stsrted to lind an Iternative home for some items that we have in excess such as other Scrapstores and organisations with similar goals to ourselve5 or organisations who are providing a valuable community service. We will a Iso be looking to add two further Trustees who will complirnent the skills of the existing Trustee board. All Trustees positions are voluntsry.
