DUNSFORD COMMUNITY ACADEMY

Parent, Teacher and Friends Association Chair’s Annual Report — Academic Year 2024–25

1. Introduction

This report summarises the activities, fundraising outcomes, and governance matters of the Dunsford Community Academy PTFA for the academic year 2024–25. It is intended to provide parents, carers, and the wider school community with a transparent account of the Association’s work during the period.

The PTFA trustees wish to note that the year presented a number of challenges, most notably the prolonged absence of the headteacher, Mr Grimley, due to illness. The trustees extend their best wishes to Mr Grimley for his recovery and forthcoming retirement. The Association is grateful for the continuity of leadership provided by Mr Waters during this period, and looks ahead to the coming academic year with confidence.

2. Enrichment Activities Funded

The PTFA continued to allocate funds towards a programme of extracurricular enrichment activities for pupils across all year groups. The following sessions and visits were delivered during the academic year:

3. Swimming Pool

The school swimming pool continued to serve as a valuable facility for both curricular swimming lessons and recreational use. Demand during the summer term was notably high, due in part to the sustained warm weather. The PTFA acknowledges the contribution of Hannah Smallbridge, whose ongoing maintenance of the pool has ensured it remains safe and fit for purpose throughout the year.

4. Fundraising Activities

The PTFA continued to pursue a varied fundraising programme during 2024–25, with a number of events organised in partnership with local organisations including The Village Hall, St Mary’s Church, and neighbouring PTFAs. Collaborative working of this nature has proven effective in maximising community participation and reducing organisational burden on individual volunteers.

Events held during the year included:

5. Governance and Trustee Changes

At the conclusion of the 2024–25 academic year, three trustee positions will become vacant following the planned departure of the Chair, Treasurer, and one further trustee. The trustees wish to emphasise that these departures are coincidental in timing and do not reflect any difficulty within the Association. Recruitment for all three positions will be undertaken at the start of the Autumn Term 2025. The PTFA welcomes expressions of interest from any member of the parent community.

Brief statements from each departing trustee are included below for the record.

Josh (Chair)

“Serving as PTFA Chair has been a genuinely rewarding experience. The role has provided valuable insight into the day-to-day life of the school and the opportunity to support the extracurricular programme. I am grateful to have worked alongside such a committed group of trustees.”

Alex (Treasurer)

“The treasurer role has been one of considerable satisfaction. It has offered the opportunity to engage closely with the school community and to ensure that funds raised are deployed effectively for the benefit of all pupils. There is, inevitably, administrative responsibility involved, but the impact of seeing those funds translated into real educational benefit has made it thoroughly worthwhile.”

Jenny (Trustee)

“I have particularly valued the close working relationship with the school and with the visiting creatives and providers who contribute to the pupils’ enrichment. The trustees have functioned as a genuinely collaborative team, and it has been a privilege to be part of that.”

6. Looking Ahead

The PTFA is seeking new trustees to fill the three vacancies arising from September 2025. No prior experience is necessary; the Association provides support and guidance to all new trustees. Involvement can be tailored to the time available, and contributions of any scale are welcomed. Those with ideas for community events or fundraising initiatives — whether or not financially motivated — are particularly encouraged to come forward.

The PTFA also takes this opportunity to wish all Year 6 leavers well as they transition to secondary school, and to extend best wishes to all families for the summer period.
