FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST, KENDAL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 Activities & Progress Following agreement by the members last year, a local Architext was comrnissioned to cary out a full report on the state of the church roof. It was subsequently agreed to follow the report recommendations and work commenced in June 2023. Financial assistance was sought from the C S Trust in Great Britain who generously agreed to pay 750/0 of the cost. The project was completed in February 2024 within budget. Apart from replacing the flat roof. it was possible to carry out internal and external decoration and renovate outside stonework. With the church encased in scaffolding, we continued to hold Sunday services most Sundays. However. it was decided to close the Reading Room temporarily and not have Wednesday lunchtime testimony meetings. Both these outreach activities have now been restored with the Sunday School also available. We have an arrangement with the UK online CS Reading Room for our website. This year our lecture had to be postponed until 2024 due to the ongoing building work Executive Board & Trustees Members who served during the year We - Gina Woods-Jack (Chair) Susan Midgley Catherine Wanless (Clerk) Elizabeth Falkingham ( Treasurer) Financial Position The Receipts & Payments account on page 2 shows an operdting deficit of £7607 compared to a £4474 deficit in 2022. While overall income rose by £5k (due mainly to increased bank interest), this was negated by higher repair & maintenance costs of £9k. Exceptional expenditure was incurred on a major renovation project, the net cost of which was £39k. In consequence total net assets fell 10 £127459 as at 31" December 2023 (31112122 £168664). Reserves Policy The Trustees recognise their responsibility to maintain sufficient cash reserves. For reasons explained above. liquidity fell to £79167 (£120355 as at 31112122).
