Oldbury on Severn Memorial Hall Chairpersons report 2025
Thank you for all for coming this afternoon, I hope you find this report informative, and I am happy to answer any questions at the end.
I think we can all agree that 2025 was another good year for the Hall and we have built on the excellent work carried out over the last few years. The EMC has worked tremendously hard to deliver so much over the last twelve months, but when we see so many people enjoying the various activities laid on by ourselves and other groups in the community, it makes it all worthwhile.
Regarding the Hall building - over the last five years we have spent approximately £195,000, more if you include VAT, on improving the building and infrastructure. This has been a tremendous achievement and should secure the future for the Hall for many years to come.
This year we have concentrated on the main hall and improving the insulation and replacing the floor. Incidentally, over 33m of joists had to be added/replaced so it was very fortuitous that we undertook this project. Not only does this work improve the appearance of the hall but will improve our carbon footprint. This year’s project, installing solar panels will help in cost reduction as well as reducing our carbon footprint
We have held a number of events that have been well supported, and a few where we were disappointed with the response. While we endeavour to provide an interesting and varied program we will not get it right every time.
A mixture of old favourites like our theatre nights, sporting occasions and music events was added to by a Bollywood night and an evening of Magic. We also experienced a wonderful Ukrainian evening which helped support the families still in Ukraine and gave people an in site into their culture and history. I was highly delighted with the response to the Craft and Produce Show, Matthew and his team did a fantastic job resurrecting this from the past. It was very well supported and I was surprised at the number of entries. It also raised nearly a £1000 which was very welcome. Our main fund raising event, was a great success, both in terms of a very enjoyable evening, but also raised a significant amount for the Hall.
We have been very fortunate to receive a number of donations, both from companies and individuals. With this in mind I am pleased to report that the EMC have decided not to charge charitable groups, or community based groups any hire charges. The Hall is a community building and this is one way we can help support our community.
As always there are several hardworking individuals and groups who have helped or supported the Hall and in no order.
-
The Cinema Club and village for allowing us to hold the 100 - club monthly draw in a public place, and the many people who subscribe to the 100 club as it is a good source of income.
-
Angela and Doug for running the 100 club.
-
Oldbury shop for their generous donations and supporting our numerous raffles with hampers.
-
Alan Taylor who is our ‘flag master’ thank you for flying the flag.
-
Bertie and Tony Action for being excellent neighbours.
-
The Parish Council for insuring the Hall and for paying for the broadband which we all benefit from.
-
The people of the village who have given their time to help organise and support events we have held, and to those who have given their time in helping out with the decorating and general upkeep of the HALL.
-
Peter Orford for managing the bookings and the heating.
-
Guy Fielding for helping in keeping the weeds at bay.
-
Marg Abbott for organising the open mic nights and the 007 concert, both are enjoyable and a good source of income.
-
For those companies and individuals who have donated money to the Hall
I would like to thank all the people or groups who have hired the Hall, without you we would not be here!! We hope you continue to do so and please make suggestions on how we, as a committee, can improve upon your experience.
I must thank the EMC who have been extremely supportive in their roles, without their guidance and support my job would have been impossible. I cannot stress to you how hard they have worked throughout the year. They have been brilliant.
Lastly I must pay particular thanks to Linda for all the work she does in supporting me in my role.
The most important point is we are here to serve the community and would welcome input from anyone on events they would like to see organised, our limit is your imagination.
I would ask you to approve this statement as a true record for the events of 2025.
