## 5. FUNDING

A most unexpected and generous legacy was received during the 2001 year by Sussex Pet Rescue. After due consideration by the Trustees it was decided that these funds would be used to stabilise the Charity's finances. Independent Financial advice was sought and paid for. The results were investments made to meet the dual aims of providing Income and Capital Growth, with the Funds being accessible should normal Fund raising activities fail to cover the Charity's primary aim costs.

Subsequently, further legacies have been received, notably in 2007,2009,2011, 2017, 2020 and 2021 all of which have been subjected to the same basic policy principals as those received in 2001.

Despite receiving legacies in 2020 and 2021, the impact of Covid on fundraising and donations resulted in legacy funds being utilised during 2021 to support the charity’s principal aims. Unfortunately the cost of living crisis and shortage of legacy income has subsequently meant that this has had to continue during the intervening years.

The Trustees have elected to follow current cost Accounting in respect of the Investment, annually declaring in the Profit and Loss Account, any gains or losses arising.

During the years since 2022 the Income from the funds has been used to assist in meeting the direct costs of the Charity.

Ann Craske Welfare Support Fund has kindly continued to provide help for the owners of pets requiring veterinary treatment, with financial support from Sussex Pet Rescue. Unique Pets Rescue have kindly taken over from Rosie’s Register, providing the same assistance.

Donations have also been made to Kit Wilson Trust, Garbo’s German Shepherd Dog Rescue, Balto’s Dog Rescue, Worthing Animal Clinic, K-9 Rescue Remedy, Southern Sighthound Rescue, Dogs in Need, People’s Animal Welfare Society, Celia Hammond Animal Trust, Wildlife Aid Foundation, The Cat & Rabbit Centre, East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service, Sompting Wildlife Rescue, Wadars, Unique Pets Rescue, PDSA (Brighton Hospital), City Cat Shelter and Catastrophes Cat Rescue,

The charity also contributed to the veterinary bills of Help4Hedgehogs, Hogs Wallow Community Group and the Eastbourne Rabbit & Guinea Pig Rescue.

These donations have been made possible by the generous legacies received over the years, together with returns on our invested capital, fundraising efforts and continuing donations from our loyal supporters. As long as funds are available, it is the trustees’ intention to continue supporting small animal charities throughout Sussex and the South East. They understand and accept that in the absence of substantial legacy income, this support will eventually have to cease. They have made the decision to continue making generous donations, despite this, feeling that so many charities are facing challenging times and need help now.
