Educación Plus in the UK exists to support the continuing fruitful work of Asociación Educación Plus de Costa Rica among shantytown children. This mission was started in 1992 and was first formally set up as a charity in Costa Rica in 1994.

Educación Plus acts as an holistic ministry to the children of the shanty towns around the capital city San José. Schooling is free in Costa Rica, and provided the children have a uniform, including shoes and a school bag with basic equipment they are eligible to attend. By providing these necessities, Educación Plus has enabled hundreds of children each year to attend school. In addition, Educación Plus organises sports, Bible study groups, Christmas parties with presents, and holiday camps for these seriously deprived children. One of the main strengths of the work has been the personal contacts with the individual families, enabling many of the crises of poverty to be resolved and thereby ensuring that the children continue to attend school. Rev. Keith Holder, the founder of the mission excelled in this work with the families and children. He has been ably assisted by paid Costa Rican staff workers and several part time volunteers.

Although Keith returned to the UK in 2017, he continues to travel to Costa Rica, at the invitation of the work. This is usually from the end of December to February/March. This is the period when the summer holiday camps take place followed shortly after by the start of the new school year. 2020 was a tough year for Educación Plus as the coronavirus pandemic swept Costa Rica. Despite this, the charity’s workers continued to do all they could to provide for the children in the communities where it works. We are grateful that the finances remained robust during the year, with little reduction in regular giving. Several additional donations were given to help those families most affected by the lockdown restrictions in the country. Due to the pandemic, Keith was unable to travel to Costa Rica, so no expenses were incurred for this purpose.

Educación Plus, UK, was set up in 1995 by Rev. Keith Holder’s friends and supporters to provide prayerful and financial support for the work in Costa Rica. Income for 2020 was £60740, which is a small increase on the previous

year. The income is made up largely of regular donations with occasional single gifts and sponsored funds. Change of Trustees N/A
