The Chairperson of the Walton under Fives Toddler and Pre-School Group presents the following report on behalf of the committee.
Structure Governance and Management
We adopt the Pre-School Learning Alliance Constitution 2011. (Updated at our AGM in October 2020)
The Pre-school is committee/trustee led. The Trustee appointments are reviewed annually at the AGM. Committee members/trustees are past and present parents of children who attend the Pre-school.
The committee appoint a Pre-School Manager, Deputy Manager and 3 early years’ practitioners who staff the day to day running of the pre-school. All our staff our qualified
to NVQ3 level apart from one who is NVQ2 trained. One of our committee members, who possess a NVQ3 is down as bank staff to help us in emergencies and with staff sickness. Additional parent volunteers can be asked to help; all staff, students and volunteers are DBS checked.
Training for the committee/trustee members is provided by Somerset County Council and other outside agencies e.g. Fire Service and British Red Cross. We are inspected by Ofsted every four years and meet the code of practice as set out by the Council. Our most recent inspection by Ofsted was in 2017, so we are due an inspection. In our previous inspection we received a ‘Good’ rating, getting an ‘Outstanding’ in Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare, which we are extremely pleased with. We are working hard to maintain this standard and build upon it.
The Pre-School is situated in Walton Village Hall; this helps to keep us at the centre of the community. We extend our thanks to the Walton Village Hall Trust for their continued support of the Pre-School. Risk assessments of the building and activities fall in line with our Ofsted requirements.

The Pre-School made a small profit of £641 up to August 31[st] , 2022. This was an excellent achievement in the post Covid environment and gave us a great foundation to build from. The big contributors to this were the pre-school fees and lunch fees that raised £4,730 above the budget and the fundraisers that raised £1420 above the budget.

Achievements and performance
In June 2022, we launched a breakfast club that is still running today. This was started after we did some research with parents and discovered it was a service they’d like to see. The breakfast club has helped gain some additional revenue while also assisting those parent’s needing childcare from 8am. The breakfast club is also available to children of the neighbouring Primary School, a member of the pre-shool walks the children to school when the schools opens.
As this shows we continue to have a strong relationship with Walton Primary and this was further demonstrated in July 2022 when Mrs Hughes who is the Reception teacher came to the Pre-School to meet some of the children that were moving into her class and read them a story.
The Pre-School continues to have a strong link with the community shown when local resident Sharon Milner and friend to many at the Pre-School donated £766 that she raised at the community Queen’s Jubilee event in June 2022.
Finally, and as briefly mentioned in the financials section, The fundraisers have been a real success. Of note, the tabletop sale which made a £332 profit despite it being a very hot day and the fancy dress disco that made a profit of £123. In addition to these, the pre-school children made an incredible £294 for a sponsored bounce event.
With a solid foundation and un-wavering commitment and support from the staff, committee and parents we are confident of continued success and growth for the PreSchool moving forward.

Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
