Income for the twelve months was £31,002 (£28,794) and expenditure was £27,843 (£15,420) giving an excess of income over expenditure of £3,159 (£13,373).

As usual with accounts on a cash basis there are some late costs from the previous year included in these figures, while quite a number of expenses for this year have not yet been submitted while some costs relate to two years. Our generous donations included £2,680 (£1,165) that qualifies as Gift Aid and a further £6,520 (£5,330) for the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme.

The value of the Investment Portfolio, professionally managed by Brewin Dolphin Ltd, was £554,132 (£508,433). The income from this provides us with a significant part of our revenue whilst this capital, along with our CCLA deposit fund, acts as a contingency reserve in the years in which expenditure exceeds income. All our funds are unrestricted.

Silverton Link Up patient transport scheme and “Bertie” prescription delivery service continue to run very successfully along with Balance Classes, Over 65’s Keep Fit, Baby Weigh and Stay group and a regular menopause group which meet every 2 months. The Tai Chi classes adapted to include Qigong and we also initiated a seated yoga for the less able. The Silverton Memory Café continues its good work and we were happy to assist with grants to cover their venue rental. The Wellbeing Co-ordinator has been very busy at keeping in touch by telephone and with home visits and the Film Club continues to be a success with the additional benefit of improving social interactions. The Digital Social Prescribing project, aiding people unfamiliar with modern technology, also continued to give help and advice. This year we approved grant aid for limited introductory grants for newly diagnosed patients to have early access to introductory rehab cycling sessions with Freetrike of Silverton, which provides supervised cycling for disabled people on purpose made cycles. Their major groups of clients are Strokes, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Head Injury and Cancer. No one has yet to take up the offer.

We are grateful for the receipt of £786.00 from Transport For Your Community, and £425.00 raised from a plant sale organised by Doreen Beer and family with the proceeds being donated to the Friends. As always we are grateful for the generous gifts from all our donors.

The trustees endeavour to regularly obtain feedback from beneficiaries of the Friends activities. Yet again there was no negative feedback in the current year.

We are grateful to all our trustees and other participants at committee meetings for their support and to record our thanks to the many volunteers and suppliers who give assistance to all these projects for which we provide grant aid.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of

The Friends of Wyndham House Surgery

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2024, which are set out on pages 5 to 6 with notes on page 3.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

have not been met: or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Name: Paul Webster

Relevant professional qualification or body: Retired Bank Official, formerly Associate of the Institute of Bankers.

Address: Old Orchard, Church Road, Silverton, Exeter EXS 4HS
