' - Chairperson s Report for 2024 25 AGM

Hello all and welcome to our Annual AGM.

Please read the section reports which demonstrate another fabulous year of challenges and activities. It is always genuinely impressive to me how much the section leaders cram into the weekly meetings and camps and the variety of the activities that the young people can experience.

I would like to thank all the adult volunteers for everything that they have done and continue to do. There are many people that help at the weekly meetings and the other activities. People take a huge amount of their own personal time to deliver these amazing activities. They do it because they understand the value of giving the children these opportunities and from a sense of community spirit, but they do it mostly because they love it. I thank them all, especially Pip, JarJar and TicTac for leading the sections and the other volunteers, and Pop for his leadership of the Group .

Our Scout group is in a very healthy position . Our financials are very strong, and Tony (our Treasurer) will summarise this today. The turnover of the group is further demonstration of the programme that our leaders and volunteers put together for the children and young adults.

Scouts 28th Oxford (Littlemore) 2025 AGM Report

We are embarking on a programme of updating the facilities here. We desperately need new storage, and we have made some progress with obtaining planning. We are also searching for green charitable grants to see if we can apply for an award that would allow us to replace our single glazed windows. It would be great to replace the old carpets too. Quotes are being sought for all those things.

Naturally, our fundraising is essential for activities and for HQ and grounds maintenance and futureproofing. Next month, we will be hosting our Summer Fete , which I hope you will agree is a tremendous day out. We had a record revenue last year and a significant proportion of that was from the raffle, and I’d like to make a special mention to one of our parents ‘Rambo’ for all the hard work he has done securing prizes. I hope you come along and join in on the 28[th] of June .

As I mentioned at the AGM last year, the Scout Association has made several demands about the way individual groups manage themselves, and we have made changes to how the group is governed and managed. The Trustee Board is responsible for Safety, Trustee and Appointment Compliance, Budget Management and Reputational Risk. The Trustees meet formally approximately four times a year and have the legal responsibility for the charitable status of the group and their dedicated responsibilities.

The much more interesting discussions are related to Fundraising, Community Relations, Programme Planning, Recruitment and HQ & Grounds Maintenance. These are more informal meetings and occur six to eight times a year. We have called this gathering the Group Management Committee , and this is an excellent opportunity for parents to join in, express their ideas, to see how the group operates and to use their skills to influence this and for the benefit of the whole group.

We would really, really appreciate parents offering to join the GMC and / or offering to join one of the working committees, either for the fete, or searching for suitable charitable grants, or planning events around the 100[th] Anniversary of the Troop.

Please approach any of the leaders, Trustees, and other volunteers, and I want to thank all of those who helped over the last years and are putting themselves forward this. I hope you have a tremendous day. Food and games, good friends and colleagues. I hope I get a chance to speak to many of you.

Steven Richards, Chair of the Trustee Board

Remembrance Day (Beavers invited to join with their parents) - 2 Harvest of Talents at St Mary and St Nicholas Church - 15

This year we have managed to complete some more badges with a lot of help from our new parent volunteers. We have been able to explore new Hikes and Nature Areas. We have had a fantastic experience of meeting our local Beekeeper at St Mary and St Nicholas Church. Dan showed us how hives are formed by the honeybees and how amazing bees are. We also had the chance to explore the nature area in the churchyard. Our District Beaver Sports Day was a great day! We had lots of games and activities to help us work on our Team Challenge Badge.

Wednesday Nights at Beavers.

Another year of doing lots of different activities to complete badges. There have also been challenges to try at home. Along with our Challenge Badges our Beavers have been working hard on Wednesdays. Here are some of our activities:

At home our Beavers have been completing their Book Readers Badge, hobbies and collectors. We have also had cyclists, cooks and musicians. We have been very lucky to have our Beavers performing in school productions, and our first Beaver in The Mini Gang for Gang Show. Once again, OSM Badges at home have helped a lot with this. What great photos and videos we have received! We really enjoy seeing what the Beavers have been doing at home. We have been getting very creative recently including Christmas Collages, salt dough and rock painting for Harvest of Talents and Art Week at St Mary and St Nicholas Church. We have also been drawing all the mini beasts we have been learning about this term. Thank you to our parent helpers - Bee and Thiru; and to Little Friend, Baloo and Rann for their continued support at our evenings.

Badges – 133 Awarded. Our Beavers continue to work hard to complete lots of badges during sessions and at home. Well-done Beavers – Keep up the good work!!

Chief Scout Bronze Awards – 5 Awarded

We have awarded 5 Chief Scout Bronze Awards since June. Congratulations to Ifor, Cherry Berry, Giggles, Josh and Cheeko. This is the top award you can gain in Beavers. We have another one due to be awarded very soon. Thank you, Parents, for the help you give our Beavers to complete these tasks.

Thanks

With thanks to all our Leaders and parent helpers who have made it all possible. Thank you to Baloo for his ongoing support. Thanks to Bee and Thiru who have joined us to help this year. Also, thanks must be given to the parents and other supporters who have helped us throughout the year. Any help is very welcome in the future – please come and chat to us. We would love for you to come and get involved.

Cub Pack Report to end of March 2025

The last 12 months has been a successful and fun filled year for all involved in the 28th cub pack, we couldn’t have done any of the events or evenings without the help of the leaders and section helpers who have volunteered and given up their time and energy to help the Cub team.

We currently have 27 cubs and average around 22-23 each Thursday evening. We have sent 6 cubs up to scouts in the last twelve months and have welcomed 4 beavers. We have also been able to welcome 3 young people off the waiting list. In the last twelve months cubs have had the opportunity to take part in many different events and have had a great turn out for all of them.

Oxclean- 13 May camp 2025 - 14 Cub boating day - 9 Jubilee egg car race and party - 14 Hike sleepover - 16 Sixer and seconders camp - 6 Pizza sleepover - 15 Adventure sleepover - 12

All the events have had positive feedback from all the cubs who attended, their parents and the leaders involved, many of the cubs have been asking for more of these events in the coming year especially the Adventure sleepovers. Since the last AGM the Cubs have earned a total of 163 badges, with one of those being a chief scout silver award the highest award a young person can earn while in cubs.

In the last twelve months cubs have been enjoying a varied program including Baggy’s always popular hike nights, map reading and wide games up at Shotover. Thanks to Baloo the cubs were able to complete the DIY badge spread over 3 Thursday nights cubs were able to practise using tools and then build their DIY project of making a bird box all cubs were able to take a completed bird box home at the end of the 3rd evening.

Other activities cubs have taken part in on Thursday evenings include:

The cubs always come into each Thursday evenings eager and enthusiastic to learn new skills.

Thank you to Baggy, Baloo, Igloo and Keanu who have been an amazing part of the cub team this year their enthusiasm and energy on a Thursday evening and on weekend events have made this year at cubs so easy to enjoy. Thank you to Pop, Kim, Pip and Tictac who have supported cubs

This year by coming along to cub night and weekend events. Also, a thank you to the parents who have helped and supported their cubs and the cub section this year.

Georgia (Jarjar) O’Loughlin, Cub Leader, Baggy, Baloo, Igloo and Keanu and the rest of the Cub team

Scout Troop Report to end of March 2025 ~~——_-.~~ Scouts Qe This past year has seen considerable activity and achievement among our Scouts. We are pleased to report the awarding of 210 badges to members, reflecting their hard work and dedication. Notably, four Scouts were presented with Chief Scout Gold Awards: Taylan Sawyer, Evie Merrett, Star Harris, and Natalie McWilliam. The attendance at the Essex International Jamboree was a significant highlight, made possible through the generous fundraising efforts of parents and leaders. Additionally, in the Autumn during JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) camp, our Scouts engaged in conversations with peers from around the world for 24 hours with very little sleep, broadening their horizons and fostering a sense of global community.

Throughout the year, the Troop engaged in a variety of meetings and activities. Fun meetings featured activities like 'The Chase is on', frisbee golf, and Sweetopoly. Craft sessions, such as EIJ mascot making and crafting. There were also sessions focused on essential skills like first aid and environmental awareness, including a visit to Ardley Recycling Centre. Each meeting offered members both entertainment and learning opportunities as they grew in skills and teamwork.

We also took part in various events that enriched our experiences. The Essex International Jamboree, held over eight days, was a major undertaking and a highlight for many. Other notable events included participating in the Stocks and café at the Group Summer Fayre, taking excursions like the synagogue visit, and engaging with the community during the Littlemore Litter Pick. The Troop also ventured into adventurous activities such as hiking camps, a pizza sleepover, and a Tech Camp where Scouts learned valuable 3D printing skills, which proved to be an exciting addition to their repertoire.

As we look ahead, there is much to be excited about in the coming year. Our summer camp is set to take place at Rhydd Covert, conveniently situated next door to the West Midlands Safari Park. In collaboration with the 10th and 43rd Oxford troops, participants can look forward to a diverse programme including hiking and rifle shooting, along with a visit to the safari park. Additionally, the Troop will be attending the Royal International Ait Tattoo event, promising an amazing experience and a legitimate day away from School!

As we bid farewell to some of our Scouts, we wish Taylan Sawyer, Evie Merrett, and Star Harris all the best as they transition to Angelmead Explorers. Their presence will certainly be missed within the Troop, though Natalie McWilliam will continue as our Senior Patrol Leader for a while longer.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all our leaders for their unwavering support and commitment. Special thanks to Chris Rogers including his amazing tech and camp support, Justin Temple including his organisation of many of the troop's outside visits, Liam O'Loughlin for including taking on arranging entry of new Scouts and various admin, Neil Diesel for excellent ideas including what to do with tincans and tech support, Jake Richards for brilliant new programme ideas, and Oscar Weekes for his assistance during University vacations. Their dedication ensures that our Scouts have a rich and varied experience throughout the year.

In conclusion, a heartfelt thank you goes out to all the children for their enthusiasm and commitment that made this year enjoyable for the leaders. We also appreciate the unwavering support from parents and all volunteers who work diligently behind the scenes. Together, we look forward to another fulfilling year of Scouting and the wonderful adventures that await us.

Helen (Pip) Doling, Scout Leader,

Thank you to Justin, Chris, Liam, Neil and Jake for their constant weekly support. Also, to Dave and Charlie who help when they are able.
