## _' - Chair s AGM Report for 2022 23_

Hello all and welcome to our Annual AGM. Last year’s event was so inspiring I think it will be difficult to surpass that fabulous afternoon – we shall try!

What another fantastic year of Scouting! Amazing programmes that have been delivered by our Beaver, Cub and Scout Leaders and the section helpers, with the assistance of Colin (Pop), our Group Scout Leader. I hope the children and aspiring adults that come to the HQ every week have been excited and stimulated by the programmes that the sections offered, and you will join me in thanking all the hard work by these selfless volunteers.

Our Scout group is in a very healthy position. Our financials are very strong, and Tony (our Treasurer) will summarise this today. We have an excellent Committee that bring their individual skills, and both scrutinises and supports the 28[th] Oxford (Littlemore) to the best of their abilities. I’d like to thank all of them for the time and effort they have given to the group and delighted that many of them are staying on.

We are always looking for additional help and support from the parent/guardian body. It is very rewarding work, and we value anyone who is willing to spend a little time for the benefit of everyone who comes to Oxford 28[th] . If anybody would like to help, please speak to one of the leaders, myself or any Executive Committee member. We are especially looking for someone who will share the responsibility for minutes secretary – meetings occur, on average, every six weeks.

About 18 months ago we lost a great friend to the Group, Margaret Ward. She had been in the Scouting movement since before (I suspect) anyone else present here was born! Margaret and her family made a fabulous donation to the Group that allowed us to erect the new canopy outside our HQ. Many hours of fun will be spent under it. We dedicate it to her, as we also cherish our memory of her.

That is not the only work that has gone on here this year. New fire pits have been built and there are plans to replace the HQ’s flat rooves and also to build extra storage capacity near the gas store. We are also seeking energy grants to add double glazing windows to the HQ – helping to reduce bills and our carbon footprint.

## **Annual General Meeting**

Last year, I was so exuberant by the heavy presence of the AGM that I went on a bit! This year I will keep it short. I just want to thank all of you for being here and wish you a great day and I look forward to seeing you again at the Annual Fete on July the 1[st] .

## _Beaver Colony Report to end of March 2023_

Another year of adventures and fun. Thank you to our Leaders, our regular helpers and new parent helpers who have volunteered to join the Beaver Team. We would like to welcome Jay and Justin to the leadership team! If you would like to get involved, please come and talk to us.

**Numbers for Beavers** . We continue to have 20 Beavers, who make up our 2 groups which are then split into 4 lodges. The Snails and The Whales are based on a wonderful book by Julia Donaldson about 2 very different characters who become friends, have lots of adventures and learn to help each other. This allows us to easily split into 2 groups or 4 groups depending on our activities. We have been very lucky to welcome 11 new Beavers over this last year. We have also enjoyed seeing our older Beavers moving on to Cubs and settling in so well.

Lots of our Beavers have experienced their first ever nights away. For some it was their first ever experience of sleeping away from home. We have enjoyed being able to offer more opportunities for sleepover this year. Our Beavers particularly enjoyed getting to know our Cubs and Scouts on our Group Space Camp. Our Beaver Sports Day involved lots of games and activities to help us work on our Team Challenge Badge. Six of our Beavers were very lucky to be able to join us at the District Beaver trip to RAF Hendon where we had lots of fun exploring different aircraft and working on our Air Activities Badge.

Beaver September Sleepover (indoor) – 9 Burger King Christmas treat – 15 Beaver District Sports Day – 5 Beaver District RAF HENDON visit – 6 Harvest Festival – 8 OxClean Litter Pick – 12 Fireworks at 28th Oxford – 10 Mothers’ Day Parade – 2 Winter Sleepover (Cub & Beaver Camp) – Group Camp – 13 7

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (and families) who attended OXclean this year did a fantastic job of helping to make Littlemore tidy. Everyone who saw us were very happy to see us being involved and said thank you!

**Wednesday Nights at Beavers.** Once again, we have been doing lots of different activities to complete badges. There have also been challenges to try at home.

- Learning about disabilities

- Remembering the Queen and all she did

- Harvest at the Church

- Fire safety, singing round the fire

- Cooking sausage plaits with Sandra (Thank You!)

- Local area walk around Sandford

- Green Cross Code

- Experiments

- Learning about our promise, doing our best and a little bit of Scout History

- Festivals and celebrations - Chinese New Year, Mothers’ Day and Remembrance

- Outdoor Skills - knot tying, den building, making homes for nature.

- Designing and building machines to help at home

- Christmas treat of Burger King!

At home our Beavers have been completing their Book Readers Badge and designing machines. We have really benefited from OSM BADGES AT HOME where parents and Beavers can upload badge work and see which Badges, they are close to completing. We love to see photos, videos and hear all about what they have been getting up to. Thank you to our parent helpers, Jarjar, Baggy and Pop for their continued support at our evenings and camps!

**Badges – 186 awarded** . Through hard work at our sessions and work completed at home our Beavers have completed a lot of different badges. **Well done Beavers – Keep up the good work!!**

**Bronze Awards** . We have awarded 4 Chief Scout Bronze Awards since June. Congratulations to Finn, Fluffy, Tootles and Jemima! This is the top award you can gain in

Beavers. We have another 2 due to be awarded very soon. Thank you, parents, for the help you give our Beavers to complete these tasks.

**With thanks** to all our Leaders and parent helpers who have made it all possible. Thank you to Baloo and Iggy for their ongoing support. Also, thanks must be given to the parents and other supporters who have helped us throughout the year. Any help is very welcome in the future – please come and chat to us, maybe there is a skill you have that links to our badges.

## _Cub Pack Report to end of March 2023_

The last 12 months has been a successful and fun filled year for all involved in the 28th cub pack, we couldn’t have done any of the events or evenings without the help of the leaders and section helpers who have volunteered and given up their time and energy to help the Cub team.

We currently have 26 cubs and average around 24-26 each Thursday evening. We have sent 8 cubs up to scouts in the last twelve months and have welcomed 9 beavers. We have also been able to welcome 3 young people off the waiting list. In the last twelve months cubs have had the opportunity to take part in many different events and have had a great turn out for all of them.

- Jubilee egg car race and party -  Cub boating day - 9 14 

   - Hike sleepover – 16

- Ready steady cook camp - 15

   - Pizza sleepover-15

- Autumn/winter hike day - 15

   - Oxclean - 13

   - Sixer and Seconders camp - 6 (only open to our 6ers and 2nders)

- Remembrance Day parade - 16

- Group space camp - 19

All the events have had positive feedback from all the cubs who attended, their parents and the leaders involved, many of the cubs have been asking for more of these events in the coming year especially the hike sleepovers.

Since the last AGM the Cubs have earned a total of 178 badges, 43 more than last year, with one of those being a chief scout silver award the highest award a young person can earn while in cubs.

In the last twelve months cubs have been enjoying a varied program including Baggy’s always popular hike nights, map reading and wide games up at Shotover. Thanks to Baloo the cubs were able to complete the DIY badge spread over 3 Thursday nights cubs were able to practise using tools and then build their DIY project of making a bat box all cubs were able to take a completed bat box home at the end of the 3rd evening.

Other activities cubs have taken part in on Thursday evenings include:

- Visit from our local Stunt man Jon Zhang, he taught the cubs so basic movie martial arts skills and demonstrated some amazing stunts.

- Celebrated Chinese New Year.

- Bonfire and s’mores night.

- Catapult making.

- Skills nights.

- Meditation and mental well-being.

- Global challenge night, cubs learnt about charities and what they would need to survive a natural disaster.

- A visit from the PCSO.

- Science night.

- Back woods cooking.

## **Annual General Meeting**

- A night at Brookes’ climbing wall.

- Disability awareness, cubs enjoyed learning how to use a electric wheelchair and assessing how accessible our scout hut is!

- Water fight night.

The cubs always come into each Thursday evenings eager and enthusiastic to learn new skills.

Thank you to Baggy, Baloo, Igloo and Keanu who have been an amazing part of the cub team this year their enthusiasm and energy on a Thursday evening and on weekend events have made this year at cubs so easy to enjoy. Thank you to Pop, Kim, Pip and Tictac who have supported cubs.

This year by coming along to cub night and weekend events. Also, a thank you to the parents who have helped and supported their cubs and the cub section this year.

## **Georgia (Jarjar) O’Loughlin, Baggy, Baloo, Igloo and Keanu (the Cub Team)** _Scout Troop Report to end of March 2022_

## **A Busy year, having fun and finally back on Summer Camp**

Over the past 12 months, we have the whole Troop face to face again! We have reintroduced all the regular routines and tried hard to catch up with skills and badgework.

In total the Scouts managed to achieve 161 badges. A great achievement by the Scouts when every badge requires so much work.

Finally last summer we were able to return to a full week of Summer Camp. We returned to a favourite haunt of ours. Thorrington Scout Camp near Colchester. We took a total of around 40 Scouts from the 10[th ] Oxford, 43[rd] Oxford and our Troop. We had beach trips, swimming trips, visited Colchester, hiked, cooked, played games and got used to life under canvas again.

Over the last year we have practiced camp skills, first aid skills, hiking skills and cooking. We have welcomed visitors who have told us of charity work abroad and Scouting through the war years.

We have enjoyed hiking camp, Group camp, litter picking in Littlemore, Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI), a Ghost tour of Oxford, flying with the young aviators and County Patrol camping weekend.

We are currently working on some activity badges including the Emergency aid and Photography badges.

Welcome to Charlie and Dave’s new addition to their family (Riley). We have also welcomed Ruth Wallace to our team this year! Congratulations, to Neil Diesel for completing his Section assistant training.

They have all added to our talents and fun and I am very grateful for everyone’s contributions.
