Legal and Administrative Information
Legal information
Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund (“the Charity”) is a registered charity (charity number 1047526). The Charity is governed by the Trust Deed dated 16 June 1995.
In accordance with the Taunton Round Table’s rules all the Trustees retire at the Annual General Meeting and new Trustees will be appointed for the forthcoming year.
Objects
The charitable objects of the Charity are to pay or apply income raised for such charitable purpose or purposes according to the laws of England and Wales in the United Kingdom, and to, or for the benefit, of such, one or more charitable bodies, trusts, associations, institutions or organisations established for charitable purposes as aforesaid, and in such shares and in such manner as the club in ordinary meeting shall in its absolute discretion determine or select.

Statement of Trustees Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the financial statements in accordance with the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, and the provisions of the constitution. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The Trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charitable company's website. Legislation governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.

Report of the Trustees
The trustees present herewith their report and the financial statements of the Charity for the year to 31 March 2025.
Objectives and activities
We are a charity supporting individuals and charities in Taunton and surrounding areas through the award of financial grants.
We bring young men aged between 18 and 45 together, to challenge, inspire and learn from each other. We share ideas openly with trust and encourage members to make a positive impact at home, work and in their community.
Aims and objects

To develop the acquaintance of young men through the medium of their various occupations.

To emphasise the fact that one’s calling offers an excellent medium of service to the community.

To cultivate the highest ideals in business professional and civic traditions.

To Recognise the worthiness of all legitimate occupations and to dignify each his own by precept and example.

To Further the establishment of peace and goodwill in international relationships.

To Further these objects by meetings, lectures, discussions and other activities.
Public benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
Achievements and performance
We began the year with our first ever Dino Race. This was held at Taunton Racecourse, where we ran a furlong at one of their race days. This was a huge success and raised awareness of our charity as well as donations.
Throughout the year we held a number of fundraising events, raising money to allow us to issue grants to local causes.
One of the largest events that we fundraise for is to purchase tickets and arrange transportation to Longleat for people who call on the needs of other charitable organisations in Taunton and Bridgwater. This year over 500 people were able to attend this day out.
Our flagship fundraising event is our annual Speaker Night. This year we supported Samaritans of Taunton and Somerset and our guest speaker was Warwick Davis, who shared anecdotes from his illustrious acting career. The work the Samaritans do is vital and with the generous donations from 270 guests, we were able to donate £10,578 from funds raised on the night.

Report of the Trustees
During the year the Charity raised an amount of £28,732 net of fundraising costs (2024 - £29,315). These funds were utilised to make donations of £18,078 (2024 - £14,390) and to fund £7,705 of projects for our community (2024 - £6,397).
This year a surplus of £2,028 has been made (2024 – a surplus of £8,096), after bank charges and bank interest received.
In planning the donations for the year the trustees gave regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. During the year to 31 March 2025 the donations made by the charity have benefited a wide section of the public by providing organisations with vital funding with which to further their own charitable activities.
Reserves policy
The aim of the Charity is to expend funds raised in line with its objects and therefore the level of reserves held should be minimal and dependent on the timing of the charitable expenditure.
Unrestricted reserves carried forward have increased to £29,641 at 31 March 2025, from £27,613 at 31 March 2024.
Structure, governance and management
Nature of governing document
Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund is a registered charity operating through a constitution that sets out the management structure of the organisation, the mechanisms of appointment of trustees and their roles and responsibilities.
Recruitment and appointment of Trustees
Trustees are elected from the members of Taunton Round Table, which is a social club that supports the Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund. Application for membership to the social club must be supported by an existing member and then approved by way of vote from the members of the club.
Trustees are voted in at our Annual General Meeting, which is normally held in April each year.

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund
I report on the financial statements of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on pages 4 to 8.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity’s Trustees of Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
The Charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’) and that an independent examination is needed.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. Accounting policies
Accounting convention
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) – (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011.
Taunton Round Table Charitable Trust Fund meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost.
Exemption from preparing a cash flow statement
As allowed by the Charities SORP (FRS 102) the trustees have opted not to include a statement of cash flows due to the size of the charity.
Going concern
There is no doubt on the charity’s ability to continue and there are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue. Therefore, these accounts have been prepared on the going concern basis.
Incoming resources
These are recognised on the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the Charity becomes entitled to the income, the trustees are virtually certain they will receive the income, and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Donations and investment income
Donations and investment income are only included in the SOFA when the Charity has the unconditional entitlement to the resources.
Gift aid receivable
Incoming resources from tax reclaims are included in the SOFA at the same time as the gift to which they relate.
Incoming resources with related expenditure
Where incoming resources have related expenditure the incoming resources are reported gross in the SOFA.
Grants and donations payable
Grants and donations payable are only recognised in the financial statements when a commitment has been made, and if there are conditions, once the conditions have been met.

Trade debtors
Trade debtors are amounts due for services provided in the ordinary course of business.
Trade debtors are recognised initially at the transaction price. They are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method, less provision for impairment. A provision for the impairment of trade debtors is established when there is objective evidence that the charity will not be able to collect all amounts due according to the original terms of the receivables.
Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash on hand and call deposits, and other highly liquid investments that are readily convertible to a known amount of cash and are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value.
Liability recognition
Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the Charity to pay out resources.
Financial instruments
Recognition and measurement
The charity only holds basic financial instruments as defined in FRS 102. The financial assets and financial liabilities of the charity and their measurement basis are as follows:
Financial assets – trade and other debtors are basic financial instruments and are debt instruments measured at amortised cost as detailed in note 6.
Cash at bank – is classified as a basic financial instrument and is measured at face value.
Financial liabilities – trade creditors, accruals and other creditors are financial instruments, and are measured at amortised cost as detailed in note 7.

There have been no audit or accountancy fees during the year (2024 - £nil).

13. Designated funds
The following amounts are included within unrestricted funds and have been designated to be held for specific purposes:
James Satchell Memorial Fund
This is a designated fund for trustees to assign set up in memorial of James Satchell. Funds are to be used to (1) support students at Bridgwater and Taunton College by giving a voucher-based grant under an award known as the James Satchell Memorial Award once per year and (2) discretionary spend supporting young people in Somerset (including the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards).
