Structure. governance and management Governance The Milton Keyne5 Play Association is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles and Constttution. Trustee recruitment The Trustees are appointed by members at the AGM each year and are members of the public who have expressed a particular interest in serving as trustees of MKPA. New Trustee5 are introduced to the V￿rk of the MKPA by the staff and Trustees and provided with whatever assistance they need to perform their duties effectively. Or8anisatlonal strurture The Trustees/Direttors. meet as a Board on a re8ular basis and are responsible for the management of the affair5 of the MKPA. All major decisions are rnade by the Board, Includlng the approval of annual accounts as well as material a8reements, major capltal expendltures, budgets and strategic plans and they have delegated day to day operatlon decision5 to the senior staff. All Trustees are non-executive. MKPA is one of the lon8est running charltable or8anisations in Milton Keynes, with over 50 years, experience of supportlng chlld<entred play. MKPA supports parents. childminders and a ran8e of organlsatlons includingAfterSchool Clubs, Nurseries and Schools who provide seNlces to chlldren and young people, MKPA also partners Wlth Parish & Town Councils and has close Ilalson wlth other organisations such as MK Parks Trust, MK Clty Councll, The Communlty Foundation, CommunityArtion: MK and othervoluntary and community8roups. Although each Is Independent, It cooperates with play associations in other Ic￿1 authority areas and shaw best practrce with those bodies. It also arranges. on a national basis, joint resources"swaps" to Sha￿ donated materials to the mutual advantage of each participant. R15k Management The principal risks to whFch the charity is exposed relate to the safety of the children and young people wvth whom it is in dirett contsct and to funding its Sustainabilrty. Procedures, which are reviewed at least annually. ore in place to manage the risks involved in dealing with chIld￿n and young people. Operational risks such as safe equipment mana8ement and safety in the workplace are regularly reviewed. The Trustees review regularly the MKPA'S financial 5f(uation to enable them to take appropriate action to minimise as far as possible the probability and likely impact of the financial rlsks. Volunteers The Ch8rlty has benefftted greatly from the input of volunteer5. The financial value of the hours the volunteers have given to the company is not reflected in the accounts.

We currently deliver Open Access Play sessions (free to the children) in partnership with Parish Councils in Milton Keynes. Sale of play materials and scrapstore {which takes clean r&usable waste products from companies which has a play or crafting use) is hugely valued by our 1500+ member5'. A mobile 5crap5tore seNice 15 provided for childcare provlders and schools in and around Milton Keynes. MKPA provides a wide range of First Aid trainin8 and development opportunlties to support the need5 of those who care for children and young people. We have extenslve experlence In thls area, dellvering around 100 courses to approximately 850 learners each year. Flnanclal Review The charity rnade a surplus of £3.046 for the year to 31 March 2025 compared to a surplus of £18,987 last year. Play income continuesto perform in line with previous years and training is still comingtoterms with a more competitive market. The improved ran8e and quallty of go¢>Js donated to the scrapstore has led to increased income. A5 a result of the increase in the minimum wage, costs have Increased for all areas of activities, offsetting the increased income. Reserves General reserves are needed to properly plan for unforeseen significant financial expendlture. The level of reserves is set by takin8 account of The financial risks to the charitWs activities and The charity's commitments to achieve an ooanised closure. The level of reserves is reviewed on an annual basls and In accordance wlth changes in risks and potential closure costs and the trustees conslder the current level of reserves is sufficient to meet future needs.
