The The Board Board were were confident confident[in] in making making this this allocation[allocation] from from the the designated designated reserve resente because because there there were were more more than than sufficient sufficient monies monies to to be be able able to to fund fund our our new new premises premises at at Brownfields Brownfields in in Welwyn Welwyn Garden Garden City City and and cover cover the the associated associated moving moving costs.[costs.] The The designated designated reserve reserve had had been been created created by by applying applying the the proceeds proceeds arising arising from from the the sale sale of our of our unsuitable unsuitable offices[offices] in in Hemel Hemel Hempstead Hempstead building building in in 2019. 2019. This This is is an an ongoing ongoing necessity necessity due due to to the the expected expected continuing continuing growth growth of of visually visually impaired impaired residents residents across across[Hertfordshire.] Hertfordshire.

Independent Independent Auditor.[Auditor.] We We have have appointed[appointed] a a new new Independent Independent Examiner, Examiner, Resolve Resolve Accountancy, Accountancy, to to examine examine our our accounts accounts and and scrutinise scrutinise our our financial financial position position for for 2023-24. 2023-24. Governance Governance The The Board Board takes takes the the issue issue of[of] governance governance as as an an important important aspect aspect of of our our activities. activities. Whether Whether it it be be risk risk management, management, safeguarding safeguarding vulnerable vulnerable users, users, safety safety[of] of our our[staff,] staff, health health and and safety safety aspects, aspects, policy policy reviews reviews and and updates updates or or financial financial management management[controls,] controls, all all are are discussed discussed and and addressed addressed on on a a regular regular quarterly quarterly basis. basis. Our Our two Wo Sub Sub Board Board committees, committees, Services Services and and Marketing Marketing and and Finance Finance and and Governance, Governance, provide provide the the operational operational aspect aspect of[of] the the business business and and review review the the risk risk register, register, policies, policies, and and mitigation mitigation actions actions to to safely safely manage manage[the] the charities[charities][activities.] activities. Advisors Advisors work work Our Our Low Low Vision Vision Advisors Advisors undertake undertake on on average average 85 85 visits visits[to] to our our users users per per month month in[in] addition addition[to] to supporting supporting schools, schools, our our schools schools programme, programme, hospital hospital clinics clinics and and user user groups. groups. Recruitment Recruitment[of] of new new volunteers[volunteers] is[is] ongoing ongoing to[to] help help solve solve this this issue issue but but[is] is difficult difficult nationally. nationally.

HVL HVL continues[continues][to] to ensure ensure a a[wide] wide communication communication opportunity opportunity with with service service users users by by publishing publishing our our Sight[Sight] News News 3 3 times times each each year. year. It It provides provides up up to to date date information, information, interesting interesting relevant relevant articles, articles, and and opportunities opportunities for for users users to to access access or or get get involved involved in. in. Copies Copies are are now now usually usually distributed distributed electronically electronically but but we we continue continue to to send send a a small small number number in[in] hard hard copy copy format format for[for] those those not not 'online.' ‘online.’

Web Web site[site] Much Much work work on on updating updating our our website website has has been been done done[to] to provide provide a a[better] better experience experience for for our our users, users, improve improve sharing sharing of[of] information information and and provide provide marketing marketing information information to to our our funders. funders.
