Charity Name: Bentley School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association

Charity Number: 1046944

Charity Address: Bentley C of E School, School Lane, Bentley, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 5JP

Trustee Names: Vicky Hallett, Molly Scotton, Sarah Cordina, Gillian Brown

Structure, recruitment and management: All parents and teachers of children at Bentley School are automatically part of the PTFA. ‘Friends’ covers anyone in the surrounding area with an interest in raising money for the school, and therefore doesn’t exclude anyone who would like to help, who may not be a parent or teacher. Parents interested in taking further involvement, beyond volunteering at events, come forward to be part of the committee. They are voted in via the PTFA AGM held at the beginning of the academic year. The AGM is advertised to the whole school community, and is often well attended.

The committee consists of a chair (or co-chairs), secretary, treasurer and the headteacher.

The head of the school automatically becomes a committee member to represent the school and staffing needs.

The committee meets regularly together to plan the year’s events and fundraising activities. The requests of the school are taken into consideration in regards to the types of events, timings of the events and frequency.

With the help of class reps (2 per year group to help communicate plans) and volunteers, the chairs organise and plan the fundraising events and activities. Parent and teacher volunteers get involved.

The secretary assists in meeting minutes, creating advertising publications, creating volunteer sign up sheets and other administrative type jobs,

The treasurer keeps our accounts in order, manages the in and outgoings and creates reports on the fundraising success.

Objectives: Our purpose is to raise money for the benefit of

all the children at the school, to complement their education and to give facilities over and above those provided by the local education authority.

We do this by organising fundraising events throughout the school year that are fun, enhance community spirit and provide social entertainment for the children and parents alike. We aim to raise money and provide unforgettable experiences for the school community too.

Example activities: The last few academic years we have done summer fairs, Christmas fairs, raffles, film nights, break the rules days, bonfire catering, discos, sponsored walks, sponsored cycles, non-uniform days, uniform sales, treasure hunts and so on.

Achievements and Performance: In recent years, the PTFA has been able to purchase and up-keep the school minibus, buy a bank of new laptops, support with extra visits within school from external companies, support with school learning licences, buy PE equipment, support the development of a school song and so on. The school’s budget would not have been able to stretch to these purchases without the PTFA’s contribution.

Not only does the school’s financial support benefit the school to do and experience more learning, but it also eases the financial strain on our school families. For example, the use of the school minibuses for school trips eliminates the need for hiring a coach, and therefore reduces the cost for parents for each school trip. Another example is the re-using of second hand uniform — parents do not need to buy new.

And, maybe most importantly, the PTFA brings fun. Bentley is able to offer much more ‘extra’ fun than other schools are able to offer, and in turn, this creates memories and life experiences for the children they'll never forget.

It also creates a sense of school community. Many of our events involve parents, friends, grandparents etc who love to get involved with the fun too.

Financial Review

The charity had an outstanding year of funding raising for the period ending 31° July 2025, with £35,546 of revenue. Expenses before grant making were £9,034 which resulted in

a net profit of £26,512.

The revenue was higher than prior year’s due to £8,000 being collected for the school to upgrade its ageing technology.

Total grant making of £21,048 was made to the school. The £15,500 was transferred over in September 2024 related to the prior year’s fundraising activities and additional funds were transferred during the year to fund the upgrading of the school’s technology network and equipment.

Cash in the bank at the year end is £22,216. The grant making to the school for the next financial reporting period has been agreed at £20,000.

The remaining funds are required to cover expenses for future events run by the PTFA.
