Church Hall Wharf Lane Kirkby On Bain Woodhall Spa Lincs LN10 6YW Tel: 01526 352228

Kirkby-on-Bain Nursery is a small charity running a day nursery for children aged 2-5. We offer funded sessions for children ages 3 and above who are eligible for up to 30 hours of free nursery provision through the Early Years Educational Entitlement (EYEE), and we also offer sessions over and above the EYEE and to children aged 2-3. We also offer funded sessions to 2 year olds who qualify through Birth to Five’s 2 year old scheme.

Kirkby-on-Bain Nursery is registered for up to 24 children each session and is based in a leased church hall in Kirkby-on-Bain village.

The Nursery originally opened as a playgroup in February 1990 when the infant department of the local school moved into a new classroom extension. As the infant class had occupied the Village Hall, it was ideally suited to our purpose. In June 1992, we were re-registered under the Children’s Act as a day nursery. Our continual commitment is to provide the best possible care and education for the pre-school children from our community.

Aims:

  1. To help the children develop intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and morally all of which are equally important and closely interwoven.

  2. To encourage the children to become confident both within themselves and their abilities and to increase their independence.

  3. To provide a safe, relaxed and happy environment where the children will discover learning is fun.

In order to achieve these aims it is important to forge a partnership with parents in order to ensure full development of the children is reached.

Registered Charity Number 1046890 Ofsted Number 253686

Our objective is to guide and aid the development of each individual child to proceed along the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Nursery is inspected by OFSTED and obtains grant funding from the LEA.

Management

The management of the Nursery is vested in a committee comprised of parents and staff. The Committee is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Committee is responsible for ensuring that the aims of the Nursery are met, but the dayto-day running of the Nursery is delegated to the staff. The Committee is responsible for appointing staff and setting rates for fees and wages.

The Nursery Manager is called Claudette Harkus and she is a very experienced Level 3 and NNEB qualified early years practitioner.

This Year

This year has seen us very much get back to normal service with regard to visits, events and trips. Our summer trip to Tattershall Farm Park was a great success and numerous Christmas activities went ahead including a stall at the Woodhall Spa Christmas Market and our very successful Nativity play and Polar Express Day. We have also had numerous visitors throughout the year including Queenie to tell us all about the Chinese New Year.

Walking Wednesday’s continue to be a success for Nursery and the local community. Children love the different experiences, normally culminating with time spent outdoors at the school field and the feedback from the community is very positive as they love seeing the children walking through the village in their high-vis jackets.

Financial

Kirkby-on-Bain Nursery’s assets consist solely of toys and equipment used for the children and some small office essentials. The church hall where we are based is leased. The Nursery currently has no liabilities.

This year Kirkby on Bain Nursery’s accounts show that we have made a profit of £14755.65. This gives us a healthy reserve going forward and is due to increased children numbers, due to both word of mouth and effective marketing. We also had an influx of children from a local preschool that sadly had to close its doors due to the current financial climate for early years. Kirkby on Bain Nursery are at an advantage here because our costs for leasing our building are relatively low. This is likely to change in the future as the lease is currently being taken over by the Diocese and we are possible in for an uncertain future. Therefore we are very pleased to have a healthy reserve going forward as this may well be needed in these uncertain times to cover for redundancy. We are hopeful that we can work with the Diocese to find a way forward and will be actively seeking funding to repair and improve the building to keep it fit for purpose.
