## The Management Committee present it’s report and fnancial statements for the year ending 30th April 2021

Our programme this year was again disrupted due to Covid 19. We began the year in lockdown and unable to hold any face to face activities. We continued to provide fruit and vegetable deliveries to our families throughout the year including a Christmas hamper. We were also able to provide sensory and art equipment to families through grant funding. We were able to supply pumpkins for carving during October Half Term and daffodils for Mothering Sunday.

We began to offer online / virtual activities starting with the Cynon Valley PALS Summer Art Extravaganza. We asked the children to produce a piece of art showing something that they had done during the summer. Everyone who took part was given personalized coloured pencils as a prize. We posted a video of all the artwork.

As restrictions eased, our first activity which was run with Cynon Valley Museum was a family Sports Day at Ron Jones Stadium, Aberdare. The children enjoyed taking part in sports day activities and all were presented with a medal.

Our Dragons Den sessions resumed in August and were held in September and October too before the centre closed once again.

In conjunction with Cynon Valley Museum we held a live music activity via Zoom on Saturday 17th October where musicians, Rachael & Beatrice played live especially for us.

As we were again in lockdown for October Half Term we held more virtual activities. We held The Great PALS Bake Off with Richard from Cooking Together who delivered ingredients and made three videos showing us how to make Halloween treats. We invited families to take part in a virtual Halloween / Light and Bright Dress up where families sent us pictures of them dressed up and we shared the video to social media.

During Half Term we set a Calendar Challenge where we asked children to design a picture for a 2021 PALS calendar. We also took part in a virtual Touch Trust session via Zoom.

In November we held a virtual coffee and cake morning for parents on Zoom in conjunction with Cynon Valley Museum. Cap Coch Coffee delivered a coffee and cake parcel to everyone taking part

Our Christmas events were again disrupted by lockdowns so all events were virtual or distanced. We sent out a craft pack to families and then posted details of how to make the crafts online. We were very fortunate that Santa found time in his busy schedule to make a socially distanced visit to our families with a gift. We had tea with Santa where we sent out afternoon tea to the children who then watched a specially prepared video of When the Elves saved Christmas. We also held a virtual Christmas Celebration where our children submitted a video or photograph which we shared on social media. We were treated to another concert from string duet, Rachael and Beatrice via Zoom.

During February Half Term our activities centred around the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We held another bake off with Richard from Cooking Together who again provided ingredients and videos for us to make Afternoon Tea. We shared videos of The Very Hungry Caterpillar for the children to enjoy. We set craft activities to go alongside The Very Hungry Caterpillar to complete at home. We also posted videos for the children to join in our Butterfly Boogie.

During the Easter holidays we sent out a craft pack to families and then posted details of how to make the crafts online. We sent out Grow your own sunflower kits for the children to plant. We also set an Easter Nature trail for the children to follow.

## Future Strategy

We continue to evaluate the services that we provide to our families and are always looking for new ways to meet the needs of the children and the families we support. Focus for next year will be to find new ways of working and supporting families, taking in to account the COVID 19 restrictions. We desperately need more committee members as some roles are vacant.

## Risk Review

The management committee has conducted its own review of the major risks to which the charity is exposed and has set out plans to minimize these risks.

Risk 1- The charity is still unable to provide a full programme of in person activities as COVID cases remain high.

- Gradually begin to transition safely from virtual to in person activities.

Risk 2- The charity’s current committee is small in number

- Adverts for additional committee members will be arranged.

- Training for all committee members to be arranged.

## Risk 3- Financial stability

- although PALS have a good amount of money in the accounts a lot of this is protected and can only be used for specific spending, mainly food deliveries.

- fundraising is proving more difficult in the current climate and while grants to provide support during lockdown have been numerous, these are no longer being offered and the number of grants available for running costs have dramatically decreased

- continue to apply for grants as they are available and look for new ideas for fundraising events.

## Financial Review

The attached accounts were presented by the treasurer. A review of financial practise was carried out. It is recommended that all transactions are authorized by two trustees.

## Responsibilities of the Management Committee

The Charity Commission required the Management Committee to prepare financial statements for each financial year. They must ensure that the accounts are prepared and formally approve them, along with the annual report.

This  report  has  been  prepared  in  accordance  with  the  Statement  of Recommended Practice (SORP)- Accounting and Reporting by Charity, and has been approved by the Management Committee on September 28[th] 2021, signed on its behalf by;

Lisa Walstow
