The objects of the Institute building for the benefit of the local community in accordance with the wishes of the benefactor, Abraham Dixon, who presented the building (but provided no endowment) to the local community in 1892 for social, leisure and educational purposes.

Objects: (A) To Promote The Benefit Of The Inhabitants Of Leatherhead And Of The Neighbourhood Without Distinction Of Sex Or Of Political Religious Or Other Opinions By Using Or Letting The Trust Fund And The Institute Building Either Gratuitously Or Otherwise For The Diffusion Of Useful Knowledge And For Exhibitions Meetings Lectures Classes Seminars And Training Courses And Other Leisure Time Activities With The Object Of Improving The Conditions Of Life Of The Said Inhabitants, (B) For The Purposes Of Ensuring That The Institute Building Shall Continue To Be Available As An Asset To The Social And Educational Life Of Leatherhead To Maintain Decorate Improve Alter Enlarge Pull Down And Rebuild The Institute Building At Any Time And From Time To Time And Fit Up Or Equip The Same Or Any Part Of IT As The Trustees May Think Desirable For The Purposes Of The Charity And (C) To Co-Operate With Any Local Authority Or To Co-Operate With Or Support Any Charity In The Furtherance Of The Foregoing Objects And In The Educational Advancement Of The Inhabitants Of Leatherhead And The Neighbourhood
