Financial Review

The trustees of the Charity have requested that the Charity holds a minimum of £60,000 in cash reserves to cover the risks of running the annual Winchester bonfire and fireworks event and ensures that the charity continues to be a going concern. The Charity raises the majority of its funds in November and December and holds reserves to donate throughout the year.

The charity has spent the year focusing on events and raising charity funds for the community.

Given improved health of cash reserves over the previous years we have been able to continue increasing the level of donations over the previous year. We were able to increase our main reserves by 20% during the same period.

The primary reason for the improved health is the continued success of the in-person bonfire event, which was close to a sell out this year. The event continues to grow, both from a cost perspective, as well as profitability. It is clear events are now clear of any Covid drag that was impacting attendance. It was further aided this year due to the excellent weather conditions which led to a large volume of late ticket sales, which increased the income of the event and reduced potential repair costs.

In addition, the Charity carried out its successful Santa Sleigh event to date. Allowing an increase in the amount of funds given to supporting charities as well as retaining funds to support the operation of the Sleigh for several years.

The Charity was also able to start significant investment in its next-generation sleigh project. This will require continued investment in 2025 to complete the project. A decision around the existing Sleigh, which is a significant asset of the charity will also need to take place

The Pedal, Paddle, Pace event was a profitable event. Though this was reduced from previous years. We put this down to poor weather on the day itself reducing late signups. The event is starting to require capital expenditure due to the age of the equipment. Therefore plans around retaining funds raised to be able to fund the purchase on new items, must become part of the plans for the event

The charity has maintained sufficient financial reserves to remain a going concern and remains actively involved in supporting the local community.
