The Trustees present their annual rewt together the financial statements of the The Ashworth Charrtable
Trust for the year ended 5 April 2026.
Objectlves and acllvltles
a. Policies and objectives
The objectives of the Ch*ity are to make grants for charitable purposes as the Trustees dectde.
Al present, the Trustees have detem)ined to consider applications for and make grants as appropriate as
follows..
to Hospiscare's Patients and Famity Fund.
for humanitarian projects lo other charities.
In setting objectives and planning for activttses, Ihe Trustees have given due conSiderat￿n to general guidance
published by the Charity commiss￿ relating lo public benefit. including the guidance 'Public benefit.. running a
charity {PB2}'.
Achievements and performance
a. Review of activities
The Charity made grants to institutions during the year totalling £178.298 12025.. £198,920) as detailed in the
notes to the financial stslements. The Charity has continued to make grants to HoSpI￿are and has continued to
support humanitarian projects.
The Trustees have reviewed the risks faced by the Chanty and have implemented systems to mitigate these
risks. In particular, the Trustees consKter the primary risk to be a fall in the value of the Charitws investments or
a fall in the level of income. The Trustees have mitigated this risk by using the services of a leading slockbioker
and by adopting a suitsble investment policy.
Flnaftclal revlew
a. Going Concern
After making appropriate enquiries, Ihe Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate
resources lo continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason. they continue lo adopt
the going concem basis in preparing the financial statements.
b. ReseNes policy
The Trustees, reserves policy is primarily to make grants up to the level of income reseNes available. The
Tiuslees no longer hold any formal designated resefves in the Doctors, and Social Services Fund for the people
covered by the medical practices of Honiton, Ottery Sl Mary, Sidmoulh and Wonford Green surgery, Exeter and
throughovl Devon. and lor applications from the Social Services covering the same area. However, a grant of
£6,OCH) was made to Hospiscare's Patients and Family Fund (Doctors Scheme), a restricted fund which very
mLtch complements the vision of the original founder of the Ashworth Charitable Trust. The level of income arbd
capital reserves al 5 April 2026 is sh¢M in the notes lo the accounts.
. Investments policy
The Trustees have continued lo invest the Tru51 Fund to provide a stream of income available for polenlial
distribution and a sound capital base for the long term future of the Charty. The Trustees give due consideration
to the ethical implications of their investments within the context of Charity Commission guidelines lon balance,
risk and the Intentions of the original foundeY}.

The att￿hed financial stslernents show the CU￿ent slate of the finances of the TfU$t.
Inve5trienl income for the year amounted to £201.014 {2025.' £195.2671 a)d grants payable were as noted
above.
The value of the investments as al 5 April 2026 was £6,391,69412025.' £5,482.1411. The Trustees continue to
monitor the value of 115 investrments closely.
. Plans for future periods
The Ashworth online application system was paused on 4 March 2026 in order to give the Trustees an
opportunity lo re-assess our objectives in the light of current WOFld Circumstances and in particular a large rise in
the number of applications. only a small PTOPOrti1￿ of which can be supported. The Trustees are studying
relevant material on sockil and economic development and will take legal advice before any major change such
as an application to make any modfficatton to the TDJst deed. We are not expecting to exceed the capacty of the
fund in the coming year.

Trustees who have seNed during the year and sin¢e Ihe year end are set out on page 1. In the period
immediately prior lo their appointment, Darren Smith and Tahereh Hamel-smilh attended board meetings as
observers.
Decisions are made al Trustees, meetings or in ￿etr￿en meetings by a majorty of Trustees.
The right lo appoint new Trustees ss vested in the Founder.
The present Trustees will ensure that future Tru51ees are eased into the role, made aware of their
responsibilities, and provhded with infomiatv)n relating to the objectives and govemance of the Charity.

The Ashworth Charitable Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales. The address of its registered

Accounting policies
2.1 Basls of preparation of flnanclal statements
The financial statements have been prepared in ac¢x)rdance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021-
Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practsce applicable to chanl¢es
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of IFeland IFRS 1021 leffeclive l January 20191. the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Chalilies Act 2011.
The financial slalements have been prepared lo give a 'lrue and fair. view and have departed from
the Charities IAccounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required lo prowde a 'true
and fair. view.
The Ashworth Charitable Trust meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets
and liabilities are initially recognised al hislorul ¢osl or transaction value unless other¥vise staled in
the relevant accountsng policy.
2.2 Income
All income is recognised once the Charity has ent￿ement to the inc¢)me, it is probable thal the
income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliabty.
The recogn￿'on of income from legaciès is dependent on estsblishing enb'uement. the probabilty of
receipt and the ability lo estimate with sufficient ac¢yracy the amount receivable. Evidence of
entillemenl to a legacy exists when the Charity has sufficient evidence that a gift has been left lo
them Ilhrough knowledge of the existence ot a valid will and the death of the benefactotl and the
executor is satisfied that the property in question wtll not be required to satisfy claims in the estate.
Receipt of a legacy must be recognised when il is probable that il will be fe￿iVed and the fair value
of the amount receivable, which will generally be the expected cash amount lo be distributed lo the
Charity, can be reliably measwed.
2.3 Expendlture
Expenditure 15 recognised On￿ there 15 a legal or constructive obligatKJn to transfer economic benefit
to a third paty, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and
the amount of the obligation can be measured reliabty. Expenditure is classified by activty. The costs
of each activty are made up of the total of direct costs and shared c051s. including support costs
involved in undertaking each activity. Direct cosls attributable to a single activity are allocated dire¢tly
lo that activity.
Expenditure on raising funds incIL￿e$ all expenditure incurred by the Chafity lo raise funds for its
chaTilable purposes and includes costs of all fundraising activities events and non-charitable Iradiny.
Expenditure on charitable activities Ys incuiied on directly undertakirrfj the activrties wl)ich further the
Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
Grants payable are charged in the year when the offer is made except in those cases where the offe
is conditional. such grants being recognised as expenditure when the ￿nditionS attaching are
fulfilled. Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been mel al the year end are noted as a
commitment, but not accrued as expenditure.

2.6 Cash at bank and In hand
Cash al bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity
of three months or less from the date of acquisitson or opening of the deposit or similar account.

event. il is probable that a transfer of ecorKJmic benefit wll be required in settlement, and the amount
of the setllement can be estimated Teliably.
2.8 Fund accounting

furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated for other
purposes.
