Chairperson –Bernadette Harris

The function of the preschool is to provide care and education for children aged 2 -5years, The vision of our Preschool is to “Build outstanding futures for children in our community”, It is imperative that we maintain and enhance the service that we provide to extend the reach of opportunity to all.

Our provision is governed by Ofsted and was last rated as “Good” overall and “Outstanding” in ‘Personal development, behaviour and welfare’, which evidences our focus on the child centred approach, keeping their individual development and welfare at the heart of our practice. Consultations with parents and our supporting colleagues from the Medway Early Years Team continues to model our improvements throughout the year. We are constantly working to full capacity which reinforces that the provision is Good and our reach into the community is successful.

We have invested into the enhanced project of Medway Early Years Ltd, whom have replaced the previous support network of Medway Council Early years services, they provide us with training opportunities and advice to ensure we are meeting the legal and expected requirements of the provision including safe-guarding, first aid and staff development.

Our money is provided by the government/Medway Council via funding claims authorised by the entitled families that attend the setting – this year has seen some challenges with regards to temporary closure due to Covid-19 where capacity to care for children was temporarily stopped or reduced to care for those of working or vulnerable families only, in the bid to support the fight against the pandemic.

The money for this financial period has been spent on Wages, Tax, Equipment, Administration supplies, Rent and Consumables – Snack for the children as set out as a national requirement as well as significant celebration events.

This year we have once again funded our trip to the theatre in order to enhance the children’s experiences of the world and provide opportunities they may not otherwise get in such a deprived area. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to attend our usual trips to the farm and zoo and instead had a end of year fayre in our garden including an ice cream truck.

Our plans for the future year are to work towards achieving an Outstanding

Ofsted rating overall and continue to provide the level of care and education we are achieving to benefit our community alongside combatting the challenges of coronavirus within the settings practise.
