Annual Review 2024-25
Dulwich Village Infant School Parent Teachers Association exists to enrich the lives of our children in their early education by fostering a sense of community and raising funds to develop the life and work of the school, through the provision of resources and activities.
Review of Fundraising Activities
Autumn term was our busiest period with a variety of projects and events.
We ran the annual tea towels/tote bags adorned with the kids’ portraits, the Kids’ Christmas artwork project for cards and other merchandise, the nativity photos project (photos by Lynda Greene) and the Christmas raffle (organised by Nieka Enckevort). The big community-focused events were the Parents’ Christmas Party organised by Olivia Meadows and the Christmas Fair – both with music from the BritPop Folk Orchestra. The Pedder Group kindly sponsored the inputs to the Christmas (and Summer) fairs and the hot dog stand was sponsored by Betterpad Architects (Winter fair) and House of Design Architects (Summer fair) - ensuring we could maximise our income.
We had new events this year: Claire Bottomley ran our first Wreath Making session for 50 local people raising £2k; and, Rumer and Rob Shirakbari, parents of a DVIS alumni, collaborated with pupils from Alleyn’s school to give a concert to the local community, raising c.£4.5k; selling coffee before the Harvest Festival making c. £550 through tea/coffee, biscuits, book tokens and mug sales – with coffee and milk kindly donated by Redemption Roasters.
Spring term saw Hester Vaizey run the ‘Love Shop’ (rebranded from Mothers’ Day Gift shop), and Emma and Jason Howcutt organised the DVIS Quiz and Chips night, which was a great success this year with our brilliant quiz masters, Toby Knowles and Rich Barker. The children shared their art work in the annual Art Fair, organised by Sinead Power, SENDCo, and supported by proud parents. The term ended with an Easter Fun Stay and Play session organised by Charis Ballard-Riley and cake sale by Helen Clark.
New events included: The Dad Hang – an event to bring together the dads / stepdads / grandads and dad friends in our community – organised by Sarah Shirakbari, catered for by Andy the chef with music from the Britpop Folk Orchestra and Aquamanda. Dulwich Hamlet PTA advertised the event to their community, therefore the bar profits from the night were split between the two PTAs.
In April, 25 children took part in the TCS Mini London Marathon, with £10 raised for every child completing the mile- organised by James Keen, who also organised some free cycle/scoot/ walk before school sessions at the Herne Hill Velodrome across the year. Within school, all the children did a sponsored walk of a 2-mile course around the playground over 9 days with donations made via Just Giving.
Four buggy pushing mums, Neika, Anna, Juliet and Alex walked 1.2m steps for DVIS which raised £1.8k with specific aims to fundraise for the renovation of the Peace Garden to support the school’s Spiritual Development Policy and provide a reflective, quiet space for children and staff.
Into Summer term, we held two more Stay and Play sessions; summer raffle (organised by Neika and Livvy) raising £1.8k; a Leaver’s disco for Year 2 (organised by Claire Hood and Liz Holborn); the annual Summer Fair raising £6k; a parent donation of storage boxes and
bags which we sold to the community (and saved as crafts for school activities and future fairs) – thank you to James Hayward from SW Creative.
We also started a Summerhouse fundraising campaign to build a new Summerhouse in the playground, which will be used for music lessons, provide a warm and quiet playtime space, offer a safe place for intervention groups, reading groups as well as being a useful space for PTFA events in future. This raised c.£3k over May-August.
We also had donations of time and paint from Mylands Paint to help repair the fence at the front of the school – with thanks to Helen and Paul Clark – who led and funded this work. Throughout the year we’ve run pre-loved uniform sales (organised by Hannah Richardson) helping parents and the environment whilst contributing c.£1k to school.
Additional Fundraising
We received a £2000 grant from The Dyers Foundation which was kindly applied for by a parent and have been pushing ‘free’ ways for parents to make money in their everyday activities such as using the Easy Fundraising platform for their shopping and Stikins for their children’s labels.
In the summer term, we received a donation from Kate Hill; this was a contribution from the independently organised family camping weekend for the DVIS and Dulwich Hamlet communities.
Other Income
In addition to activities, the PTA has also fundraised via Just Giving and payroll giving and through the selling of Bookplates to help the school buy more books for the kids.
Spending
With a tight school budget, the PTFA contributions this year have focused on annual enrichment as well as one-off investment projects:

1) Annual contributions to school life included school events, staff support, resources and SEN support. These included things like the Christmas Pantomine (plus gift from Santa), contributions for coaches for school trips, free-flow resources for different year groups, lollies for sport’s day, investment in the Doodle Maths platform for every child in the school (this was an improvement on the previous home learning maths platform and cheaper).

2) This year saw a capital investment into the playground facilities - re-surfacing parts of the playground which had become unstable, some more child-friendly areas with grass and an astroturf football pitch (to upgrade the tarmac pitch which children had been diving on!).
Governance
September 2024 saw a change of committee with a new PTFA Chair (Katie Purser), two Vice Chairs (Bridie Cox and Johanna Wilson) and a new treasurer (Janice Leow) to work with Jonathan and Bryony.
To optimise finances, we invested in an upgraded package for our online PTFA shop, which reduced the platform fee and increased the profit from sales made online. For efficiency, we
moved our volunteering management into WhatsApp communities, improving access to parents and better coordination of volunteers to help with events. We also updated the website PTFA communication as part of a new school website project.
Parent volunteers have been instrumental in creating new events and/or refreshing old ones to provide a variety of fun opportunities to support the school and build the community spirit.
Thank you to everyone in our school community who donated items and supported our activities over the year – these contributions are critical to the success of our fundraising. A special thanks to all the volunteers who initiated and delivered events to serve the community.
All of our work wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and diligence of our Treasury team; 2024-25 saw new events which increased the time and energy required for DVIS PTFA financial management - we are very grateful to Janice, Jonathan and Bryony for their time.
Mr Gordon was fantastic in supporting the new team, working hard to ensure the events could all run smoothly and offering sound advice along the way to ensure success.
Finally, a big thank you to Mrs Poyton, and deputy, Mrs James, and all our teachers and teaching assistants and specialist teachers. It is a privilege to enrich the work that you do to benefit our children.

Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
