The Trustees (Councll), together wlth a subcommlttee compdsed of 12 other members of the soclety work
together to organlse and promote a programme ofcontinuing educatSon symposlums (CES) and other events
whlch are open to members of the soclety and also non-members Includlng studentslresldents and those
at the start of thelr pathology career. These symposla also provlde an opportunlty for toxlcologlcal and
dlscovery pathologlsts (and other sclentlsts worklng wlth anlrnal rnodels), cllnlcal pathologists and
toxlcologlsts as well as non-clSnScal regulatory sclentlsts to learn about recent sdentlflc advances and
enhance thelr contlnulng professlonal development.
Two CES are run each year wlth the B5TP provldlng at each event, one free Pla￿ and also reduced
registratlon fees to Indlvlduals worklng wlthln an "earty careeff envlronment, for example stlpendlary
studentslresearchers studylnglworklng wlthln a relevant sclentinc fleld, veterlnary pathology resldents and
profe55lonal tralnee pathologlsts worklng towards a professlonal quallficatlon or oalnlng more experlence
wlthln the fleld of toxlcological pathology.
An Annual Sdentlnc meetlng Is also oryan15ed (sometlmes In conjunctlon wlth other socletles or
organlsatlons) In order for attendees to learn about re￿￿t sclentlfic advances and enhance thelr contlnulng
professlonal development. Agaln, the BSTP are able to provlde at least one Iree place and addltlonally
reduced reglstratlon fees to Indlvlduals worklng withln an "early careerf envlronment at thls event. The
Annual Sclentlflc Meetlng also enables Junlor Members of the professlon to P￿Sent POSters or speak about
thelr research In an Informal settlng. Other short sclentlfic meetlngs may be organlsed on an occaslonal
basls.

As part of the objertlves stated al)ove, the soclety holds meetlngs and promotes sclentlllc research and
publlcatlons relatlng to toxlcologlcal pathology.
In addltlon to the Trustees, the BSTr have an Educatlon Subcommlttee comprtslng of approxlmately 12
volunteers, who, uslng thelr expertlse, are 8ble to en￿urage, help and advlce those new to the professlon
to organlse events.
For all events, a volunteer Is appointed as the Sclentific Oryaniser and they (wlth help and advlce from the
Trustees and Educatlon Subcomrnlttee) grgan15e the programme and Ilalse wlth all speakers and any other
organlsers.
Wlthout the contrlbutlon of the volunteers, Trustees and the Educatlon Subcommlttee, the B5TP would not
be able to run these events, whlch attract people to attend, not Just from the UK and Europe, but also from
the USA and Asla.
Whllst the alm Is for all events Is to break even, any surplus funds achleved are used to offset any deflclts
and enable the Bsfp to provlde the free place and reduced reglstratlon fees at future events for those
worklng wlthln an "early careerf envlronment. Addltlonally. the BSTP Is able to provlde bursarles (on
request) to help towards the cost of reglstration and travel from Interested members and non-member5 of
the BSTP.
Summary ol the maln achlevements of the charfty durfng the year
In 2020, due to Covld- 19 restrlctlons. the BSTP Councll took the declslon to postpone CES 3: Cardnogene51s
(due to be held In March 2020) and CES 4: Resplratory System (due to be held In July 2020) and reoryanlse
th¢m as vlrtual (Zoom) events In 2021.
The planned semlnar on Dlgltal Pathology due to take place In May 2020 was Cancelled.

Durlng 2020, the BSTP Councll and Education Subcommlttee also took the declslon to Postpone the 2020
ASM whlch was due to be held In November 2020 and to reoryanlse the Annual Sclentiric Meetlng as a
vlrtual (Zoom) meeting In November 2021.
Due to the postponement of the two CES and the Annual Sclentlflc Meetlng In 2020 the BSTP dld not recelve
any Income from contlnulng professlonal development events durlng 2020.

B5TP tralnee engagement - Due to the shortage of toxlcologlcal pathologlsts the UK and Europe there
Is a percelved dlfflculty In filllng some of the vacancies In the Industry. The BSTP Is stlll worklng on a number
of Inltlatlves to engage wlth veterlnary studentslgraduates and provlde opportunltles for them to make
career In Industry. Dlfferent Inltlatlves were carrled out In 201912020. Tralnee Industrlal Placement
Programmes were offered at GlaxoSmlthKllne and Charles Rlver were postponed until August 2020 (GSK)
and untll December 2020 (Charles River). Talks for ￿SIdentS and undergraduates to bulld brldges wlth the
next generatlon ivere delivered ot Brlstol and Dublln veterlnary medlclne schools before the lockdown in
March 2020. ￿ worklng wlth Rebecca Terry, were responsible for all tralnee matters,
Includlng lectures at the RVC Ilntercalated Bsc). Attendance at a careers fair at Brlstol by the Junlor Vice
Presldent onllne will occur in the flrst quarter of 2021. An onllne Resldents. Day wa5 organlsed by

Toxlcoloqlc Pathology Is the offlclal Journal of the BSTr. In 2020 the BSTP councll establlshed an SOP to
endorse publlcallons Inltlated by other socletles and to submlt manuscripts to Toxlcologlc Pathology
sponsored by 8STP. The councll has adopted a target of one sponsored publlcatlon per year.

resulted In the vlew that the Bsrp could stlll contlnue to meet Its current obllgatlons for a perlod of
approxlmateSy 2 years; and that In the event that the funds fall to £30,000 Immedlate actlon wlll need to
be taken to avold the posslblllty of the 50clety Incurrlng further deflclts. The next revlew Is due before 30th

or free attendance to those In the early stages of their careers, as well as part-￿me secretarlat and flnanclal
help.
Durlng the 201912020 flnanclal year, because events were cancelled and sorne costs could not be recovered,
the soclety had a deflclt of funds, however, due to measures taken by the 8STP Councll early on In the year
to mltlgate losses, there was no requI￿rnent to move any funds from the savlngs account.

attended have the opportunlty to complete the full cycle of symposla.

whether some or all of these events can be organlsed as lace-to-face events.
The BSTP would also Ilke to try and reverse the hlstorlcal trend of decllnlng membershlpi consldered laryely

reach out to those In experlmental medlclne or toxlcology In order to establlsh thelr need5 Jnd If necessary,
