The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

The Trust is established to relieve sickness and to preserve and protect the good health of the public by advancing the education and training of general practitioners in the Swindon area.

The Trust aims to achieve this by:

Bringing together in conference representatives of voluntary organisations, government departments, statutory authorities and individuals.

Arranging and providing for, or joining in arranging and providing for, the holding of exhibitions, lectures, classes, seminars and training courses.

Full membership of the Trust is open to all general medical practitioners working within the Swindon area either on full-time, part-time or locum basis, or retired, or any other interested person or such persons as organisations, whether corporate or unincorporated as the Executive Committee from time-to-time decides.

Public benefit

The Trust is well established to protect the good health of the public by advancing the education and training of General Practitioners working and training in the Swindon, Wiltshire and Cirencester area.

In the academic year of these accounts 2024/25 Swindon GP Education Trust ran 34 events for its GP, trainee and allied members from the local healthcare community to support their education and training and ultimately benefit patient care. These educational events are a mix of workshops, lectures, interactive and case-based learning. The majority of events are held face to face to enable peer support and networking opportunities, with the addition of online evening events to boost attendance for those who may be unable to access daytime events.

In addition, Swindon GP Education Trust has continued to host a regular term time GP Sessional group to provide peer group support and educational opportunities to this group of GPs in addition to the main programme.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Swindon GP Education Trust continues to have a stable membership and runs an annual rolling programme of educational activities mapped to the RCGP Curriculum to support local GPs, trainees and allied staff such as practice nurses, paramedics and pharmacists in their education, development and support.

We continue to work with consultants from the local Great Western Hospital, and other organisations and charities to provide accessible, relevant and educationally valuable events for our membership. We have had multiple external guest speakers promoting a wider skill set and expertise.

We remain responsive to our members by seeking regular feedback to help shape future course and programme development to meet GP learning and development needs. We are also actively involved in a regional group of similar educational charities where we share good practice and ideas that may benefit our respective membership and ultimately benefit patient care.

Our educational events also provide the opportunity for GPs to meet for informal peer support and professional & educational networking, enhancing working relationships in the local healthcare community.

Our website allows members access to handouts and resources securely online, plus browse educational events to peruse at a convenient and suitable time. The website also allows members to renew their membership and book onto courses which has had excellent feedback.

In addition to this we host an optional WhatsApp group for members to receive notifications and event updates, with key learning points shared.
