**Annual General Meeting Thursday 17[th] July 2025 at 7pm Agenda** Association Chair’s Report to the Meeting Mid July sees our ACA AGM. The following is a summary of 2024-5 activities in advance of this. This has been published in the Summer 2025 Newsletter already. The expression is that a week is a long time in politics. (This is especially the case at the moment.) Thankfully life in our Aberhafesp area goes at its own pace but, on hindsight, plenty of things have happened that warrant reporting over the past 12 months. Before running through these, I want to take the opportunity to thank various people for their amazing efforts in helping us with our activities. And thanks also to those of you who have visited the Centre in the last year, be it once, now and then or more often. Here we go in no particular order and as briefly as possible: Nigel and Rachel Hamer (Wander-Inn, building and maintenance stuff, bingo…); Perry Lovell (bingo calling); Marilyn Bedworth (Newsletter, promotion …); Cheryl Bridle, ACA Hon. Treas (for successfully managing our money and winning her various battles with HSBC); Graham and Christine Green (Centre bookings, lots of door unlocking and locking, cleaning); Glenys Pryce, Margaret Pugh and the ACA Committee (running the 200 club and especially the kitchen ‘show’ so adeptly), and to anyone and everyone who has contributed in any way. ## _**Funding**_ We have been successful with several grant applications as follows: Remedial and other work has been completed following inspection of the Centre by the Fire Officer (in 2023). Much of this was funded by a PAVO* award – the ‘Rebuilding Community Foundations in Powys’ levelling up grant. Grant money was also received from PAVO as part of a larger project to aid adult literacy. The patience of the Friday bingo attendees and others was sorely tested whilst this was in progress. Thanks! The most obvious ‘win’ was an award from the National Lottery for the purchase of 120 nice new Centre chairs. These are now in regular use and have been welcomed by all, including – or especially - our bottoms. Lastly, on the award front, we are expecting to begin ‘Use it or Lose it’ exercise classes in the next few weeks. This follows a successful application, again via PAVO*, for funding from the Social Value Forum Development Fund 2025-2027. Aberhafesp Community Council donated £1000, which has enabled us to pay for broadband in the Centre. This is a significant advance which will help with a number of future Aberhafesp Community Association Charity no: 1043185 events, with day-to-day running (especially of the Wander-Inn) and improve usage by those living in our increasingly cashless (mobile phone) world. The Community Council also helped with financial support for the community’s VE Day celebrations. Subsequent to this, a donation has been received from the Council’s 2025-6 budget for spending on improving audio-visual (especially visual) facilities in the Centre. We give thanks and appreciation. ## _**Community Centre use**_ Where do I begin?! Bingo, of course. Bingo is now an established fortnightly fixture. At a guess, maybe 100 different people have come along to the games; 40 to 50 regularly do so. Thanks to Perry (calling), Nigel and Rachel (bar etc.) and Simon Hayward, who has stood in on Perry’s absences. Our occasional Saturday Bacon Buttie coffee mornings continue to be a success, as do the regular Friday pop-up coffee-cum-meeting sessions (2nd and 4th Fridays, 10 am-12 noon). Casual Welsh-language chat sessions now run as part of these Friday mornings. Thanks to Margaret Jones (ME) for ‘hosting’. ## _**Affiliated Groups**_ Our Group list has grown slightly with the addition of the use of the Centre as a meeting place by a local Home Educators group. We are delighted to welcome you! All the other groups and activities continue successfully, including the YFC, WI, Short Mat Bowls ... ## _**Other events**_ We have Quizzed, Ceilidh’d, VE-Day celebrated, Harvest Supper’d (afternoon tea actually), been right well entertained by Johnny & Hywel, by Rory the Story Evans and by Stuart fast-fingers Jones. We’ve been shaken and stirred by Anything Goes, burned our VE beacon brightly and been defib trained. So if you haven’t been down yet, I hope this gives a flavour of what’s in store. And if you have, thanks. Please keep coming. ## _**Looking ahead**_ Watch out for details of: - ‘ Use it or Lose it’ exercise classes beginning soon - Dog Show (August) - details TBA - Spud in a Bucket weigh-in (early September) - Quiz night (details TBA) - Anna Massie (folk, Friday 24th October) - Another band night (details TBA) - Another Ceilidh (details TBA) Aberhafesp Community Association Charity no: 1043185 - Another Choir evening (November) - A tie-up with Noson Allan (live theatre and other types of events) as well as our regular ‘features’ And the upshot of all the above is that - The ACA remains financially solvent - The Community Centre is safer and in better repair - Our facilities have continued to be improved making for an all-around better place to meet, greet, hire or just wind down and chew the fat! ## Perhaps the year in Aberhafesp hasn’t been as quiet as I thought!
