Chairpersons report 2023
This is the chairman’s report for the Cheshire Asbestos Victim Support Group for 2023.
We continue to provide a service and offer advice on the benefits available to those suffering from asbestos related diseases. During the past year we have continued to assist clients and the group has helped 78 people and their families with advice and support. We have successfully helped our clients to obtain approximately £446,000 in compensation and benefits over the last year. This figure may be significantly higher as we only receive notification from approximately 73% of our clients.
We continue to contribute to the Asbestos Support Group Forum who provide one voice for asbestos victims nation-wide and to bring any issues to the All-Party Parliamentary group on Occupational Health and Safety for consideration. The Forum is still pressing Cape Industries to pay a sum of money in compensation.
Last year’s plans for Action Mesothelioma Day which involved an information table outside the office went well but this year an event is planned at the Catalyst Museum in Widnes. The group has also arranged for the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Brindley Theatre to go blue for the day.
Unfortunately, last year we had to part with our respite caravan as it was becoming very difficult to maintain and clean. This was done with a heavy heart due to the many peopie who had enjoyed this facility over many years.
The group would like to thank our panel of solicitors and Halton Council for their continued and much needed financial support and assistance so that we can continue our work. We would also like to thank all of those who have provided donations in these difficult times which have helped us to maintain our work.
The group would like to thank the staff and volunteers because, without these people giving their time and expertise, the group could not continue to provide the outcomes that we do for our clients. We also thank the staff, volunteers and clients for their patience and flexibility during these difficult times.

HON. TREASURERS REPORT 2022/2023
Good afternoon everyone,
Thank you for having me as Treasurer.
Our income this year was down overall on the previous year by some £3,000. This was mainly due to the sale of our caravan in November 2022. Also, our donations decreased by around £1,000 from the previous year.
In terms of our expenditures, most were consistent with the previous year, except for the expenses related to caravans. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, there was an increase in volunteers’ expenses due to a full year without pandemic restrictions. Overall, the group ended the year with a loss of £3,424.
Wages have increased by around £2,000; this being due to the ongoing Cost of Living situation.
Our bank accounts remain healthy, and | am confident that the group will thrive in the coming years.
Thanks again, and | look forward to the year ahead.
Charles Green.
