Trustees. Report
As a Christian charity our faith is foundalional to the way we work and is why we do what we do. All people
who meet our eligibility criteria are welcome to access the services we provide regardless of their religion
or status. We do nol discriminate against any individual on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment,
marital or civil partner status. pregnancy or matemity, race, colour. nationality, ethnic or nalional origin.
religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation (referred to as protected characteristics). We do not impose our
faith on our service users - they are free to choose and express their own views within our services - our
charity is open to all. In keeping with the 12- Step Recovery Programme, faith is a component of recovering
from addiction and trauma and so views on spirituality are discussed and explored as part of the programme
and is relevant to everyone.
Publlc benefit
We have referred to Ihe guidance Gontained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefrt
when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities.
Our service provision benefits people from Derbyshire and across the UK. Specifically. through provision
of emergency and refuge residential facilities for women and their children,. services for young adults and
people who are marginalised, such as those with mental health issues. ex-offenders. young people at risk
of offending. people at risk of or recovering from drug and alcohol misuse.
Service users in our residential services are primarily women (and their children), struggling wilh multiple
needs such as: fleeing, or needing to recover from domestic abuse. substance misuse addiction. struggling
with mental health. complex needs. At any given time, they may include individuals on completion of a
sentence. long-term and often generationally unemployed individuals suffering from destructiveldebilitating
lifeslyles. individuals suffering from low self-esteem, those with co-dependency issues, individuals who are
self-harming. Many service users are poly drug users with complex needs also diagnosed with mental
health issues including bi-polar, depression, panic attacks and anxiety.
People who are long-term and often generationally unemployed benefit from our skills development work-
like activities for men and women from 18 years old. Communty wide public benefit is achieved through
reduction in crime and in the cost of public services induding health services.
GNFC fulfils public benefit through:
The provision of refuge accommodation for women from 18 years who are fleeing domestic andlor sexual
abuse and providing victim protection with holistic support. Our approach promotes Ihe development and
strengthening of family bonds whenever possible with the whole family. When appropriate we offer
mediation and advocacy between the victim and perpetrator, recognising the priority of risk assessment
and risk management. Addressing problem drinking in young mothers and challenging substance misusing
life-styles. Providing courses and interventions to empower women to grow in confidence, make wise
choices and point the way for a greater capacity to manage relational conflict. also reducing the effect of
alcohol misuse within the family, thereby decreasing crime and disorder and reducing the number of repeat
incidences of abuse. Parenting programmes and support facilitate development of skills and appropriate
authority within the family. These aid the parenuchild relalionship and help protect against the fomation of
behavioural problems in children and potential entry into Grime in the future, which contributes to meeting
the targets of the govemment Troubled Families.
Homeless facilities are provided to the local aulhority and beyond Derbyshire.

In partnership with local agencies and forums we seek to shape future services to protect children and
vulnerable adults from abuse, reduce domestic abuse and addiclion and promote caring family values in
our society.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Events
Two new team members arrived towards the latter part of the reporting year from Brazil - a young couple
who are here as Religious Workers under the government Sponsor Scheme. They worked alongside team
members to learn about the different areas of work that we cover and to help develop their spoken English.
although they had worked hard to prepare themselves prior to their arrival. They were quickly able to support
existing staff members whilst 'learning the ropes,, helping provide extra support hours to ensure that our
residents and outreach participants were well supported throughout the week.
We were delighted that once Covid-19 restrictions were lifted we could plan and go ahead with our annual
celebration and thanksgiving event. This was a smaller event than previous years but was also broadcasted
by a video link for the first time.
A smaller version of the summer garden party was held in the autumn when friends old and new gathered
in the barn at Oldfield Fami and enjoyed a BBQ.
Beneficiaries July 2023 To June 2024
The total numberof Residents from July 1st, 2023, to June 30th, 2024, were 30 adults and 19 children. We
also provided ongoing support for several ex-resident families and community members. The numbers are
relatively low due to fewer properties being available for our residents to move onto. Some have been with
us for far longer than ideal bul the shortage of suitsble properties with the local counGiI tnakes it drficult for
them to move on to independent living.
Financial Support
Grants have continued lo be rnOTe difficult to access over the past year. Funds have particularly been
affected by the lack of local government contracts. enlailing a projected shortfall of over £69,000 for tho
year. However, an unexpected bequest of slightly over £40.000 was able to be used for many maintenan
items which has lessened the shortfall in salaries and general running costs. This has helped in maintaining
our residential services and enabled us to continue to support day service benef￿lar1eS. A small number of
very faithful supporters Continue to provide not only financial support but also faithfully pray for our residents
and the work of the charity. We are exceptionally gratefvl to these people who have Continued to give
despite the very difficult financial situation they face. We are indebted to them and know that without this
dedicated support from a comparatively small band of very committed people, GNFC would h8ve been
unable lo continue the level of support for both our residentl81 and day service beneficiaries.

Future Proofing
Over the past 6 months or so. we have been building a relationship with another Christian based
organisation, Green Pastures, toward support to future proof GNFC as the founders move toward
retirement. Discussions are going well with the aim of working more closely together over the coming
months. Our team are keen to ensure thal this ministry is secured and we are blessed to have capable and
envisioned people working within GNFC to help in the process of carying the work forward into the future.
This is an important time of transition for GNFC and we have much to thank God for in that newer team
members a￿ sharing and lightening the load. We value your prayerful support. parlicularly that we manage
this prO￿sS of change for Ihe nexl phase of thejourney well. It is so important that the people most in need
of our support can continue to rely on the provision of a safe and loving home at times of crisis. The need
for caring provision for families in need in our society has Gertainly not deGreased over the past almost 30
years but has become increasingly vital.
Since the Family Centre has continued at full capacity throughout the year due to a greater demand for
places than in previous years, an analysis of the property revealed that it would be possible to create more
provision by converting the rooms previously used by nursery. Sadly, our child-Gare provision had to close.
This was due lo the decision of a govemment decision to fund primary schools for nursery provision. It is a
sad loss to resident families, butalthough we tried to continue a level of childcare through operating a creche
for a year, this proved to be financially viable.
We continue to provide support to residents in the nearby 2 adjoining flats which we rent in the communty.
These are used move-on accommodation fora single woman and a 2-bed flat forwomen and children when
it is not appropriate to offer a place at Charis House or when Charis House is full.
The flat that we rented to provide accommodation for men fleeing domestic abuse was fully used for
approximately 6 months, but it proved difficult to engage with residents despite dedicating a male staff
member to the role 3 days each week. It was hoped that the male residents would be empowered to find
work, training or participale in our farm-based skills projects, but they were reluctant to engage with this
support and didn't get along with each other. so the contract on the propety was ended.
Developments
The need for a new Recovery Manager is very urgent. One of the current board of directors offered herself
to take this role on a temporary basis. Following operating fora few months wilhjust one resident, il became
necessary to close Ihe service again until such time as we have gained the required number of staff
members to operate. However, so far no-one has been identified to take over this role which is a most
urgenl need.
In the meantime, we sadly must turn away women who are referred to our'freedom21ive' programme which
is designed for women who are caught in addiction and who have come to acknowledge that they need
help to overcome it. As Alcoholics Anonymous would slate. it is extremely difficult to break free from
addiction without the help of a 'Higher Power,. As residents at Oldfield Farm Gome to know that there is
God who loves and cares for them, it is amazing to see the progress that is made.
Page 4

Good News Family Care (Homes) Limited.
Trustees. Report
The farm has benefitted greatly in the last 3 months of the reporting year due to the addition of a new and
very experienced farm manager. It's early days. but progress is already being made in improving areas of
the farm and planning new projects for our beneficiaries to access. Projectslactivities that had ceased due
to lack of expertise are re-opening and new projects are planned. It is hoped that additional beneficiaries
from the local community will be able to join in the activities together with our residential beneficiaries. We
have been able to increase tha number and breeds of hens and eggs are being sold from the farm, including
eggs from our flock of quails. The increase in egg production. together with breeding our own hens and
quail on the farm means that the poultry project is once again becoming a contributor to incom8 generation.
This together with re-opening the woodwork skills project and horticulture had increased interest in farm
activities from both residents and daytime beneficiaries.
Financial Review
Financial and Operational Revlew
In re￿nt years we have addressed how our finances are recorded and monitored to make them more
reflective of how our work has developed over the past few years. The purpose was to ensure thal our
financial management processes are transparenl, that grants and donations can be easily identified and
that the cost of our different areas of work can be readily assessed for budgeting purposes. Our operations
are now more clearly identified and targets and outcomes are able to be accurately measured in a way that
is meaningful to funding bodies and lo our supporters.
Investment policy and objectlves
At the current lime the Directors consider it inappropriate to seek to invest with the exception of inveslment
in propety and fixtures & fittings that are specifically needed for the wntinued provision of the services we
offer to fulfil our objectives.
Reserves Poll¢y
The Directors consider it is appropriate to seek to maintain an unrestricted reserve for the future sufficient
to cover three months outgoings. Unfortunately, whilst every effort has been made to follow this policy. it
has not been possible as unrestricted incorne has dropped slightly. The Directors do however feel that there
has to be a caveat such that, if in seeking to maintain this level of r8serves the service we provide would
be drastically reduced or curtail8d, the Policy would need an immediate rethink with the necessary actions
being decided upon depending on circumstances at that time.
Our Finance Team proposed that monies should be set aside each month for various areas of known funds
required to be paid at certain times, including payments on the purchase of Oldfield Farm. This is to ensure
that Ihere are allocated funds available as and when needed. This policy was agreed by the directors of
the company and has proven to be a positive step.

The Board of Trustees (Directors) has remained stable over the course of the past year. The Board
oversees the finances of the charity through quarterly face to face Trustee Meetings overseeing the work
and direction of the charity. As many agencies we were able to maintain our regular meetings during
lockdown via video using Teamslzoom. This method has been helpful at times when it has been difficult
for trustees who live considerable distances from our centre to contribute to regular communications. The
directors seek to recwit additional members to the team as required in order to bring identified additional
skills to the Board.
