The Trustees present their report and finanaal statements for the year ended 31 October 2023.
The Truste&s confirm that the annual report and the financial stslemenls of the charity comply with the current
stslulory requ1￿mentS and the provisions of the Statement of Reeommended Practice ISORPI. applicable lo
eharilies preparing their accounts in accordance with the Finandal Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of ITeland IFRS 1021 leffective 1 January 20151.
ststus and admlnlstratlon
The charity was established by a trust deed dated 18 April 1994 and is registered with the Charity Commission
under the registration number 1042211. The charity IS govemed by its trust deed which established the
Michael Crawford Children's Charity as an unincorporated association.
The charity was estsblished in order lo promote any Chantable purposes for the beneff( of children and young
people and in parbcular bul wilhoul limilalion to the relief of sickness and the relief of povety.
Governance
The charity is administered by the Board of Trustees which is its goveming body. The Trustees meet regularfy lo
discuss and implement policy. Trustees are appointed lo the Board by Mr Crawlord CBE during his lifets.me and
thereafter by the Trustegs, in accordance with the charity's trust deed
Revlew of actlvltles and flnanclal po$ltlon
During the year the charity received donations of £1.008 and investment income of £112.268. Grants payable for
the year amounted lo £88,824.
The ¢haritl$ primary assets CoMp￿se the holding of listed investments lo the value of £5,657,580 together wf(h
funds held with UK banks. The Trustees are of the opinion that the financial position of the charity al the balance
sheet date is suffiaenl 19 meet ils ongoing projects.
The charity conb'nued to achieve its princ¢pal objectives and made grants tolalling £88,824 10 01her Child￿n.$
charities during the year. As a result, the Trustees are Satisfied that the charty has fulfilled ils public services
obligations.
The Trustees confirm that in accordance with Sedion 17 of the Charities Act 2011, they have referred lo the
Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefrt when Teviewing the Trust's aims and ribjecb'ves and in
pLanning their future grant making actwilies.

Investment powers, pollcy and perfonnance
The Trustees have wide investment powers Is sel out in the governing document. Investments are made in a
range of shares and bonds and managed gn a discretionary basis by exiernal investment advisers.
The Board's investment policy is to aim for safety commensurate th immediate and planned spending
requirements. The Board considers the performance of the investments to be in accordance with this policy.
Further detsils of investments can be found in notes 11 and 12 to the financial stslemenls. The Trustees will
continue to manage the charitys investments in conformity wlh this policy and the goveming document.
Reserves policy
The Trustees have now met their previoLbsly ststed oblectlve of increasing the Expendable Endowment Fund to
£5 million lo establish an ongoing fund to finance future donations. The Trustees will continue lo review the level
of their current and foreseeable expenditure In the light of future investment performance, general economic
conditions and implementation of their 9ranl making policie5.

The Board of Trustees are responsible for the management of risks faced by the charity. All major risks lo
vhich the charity is exposed hav$ been identified, assessed and controls estsblished as appropriate.
Conyequenlly the Tnjstees are satisfied that the major risks have bèen mitigated.

The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the Trustees lo prepare financial slalemenls for
each financial year which give a true and fair view of the slate of affairs of the charity and Df the incoming

1.1 Basls of preparatlon of financlal statements
The financia5 slalements have been prgpared under the historical cost convention wlh items
recognised al cosl or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the felevanl notes lo these
accounts. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of
Recommended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing Ihelr accounts In
accordance with the Finandal Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS
1021 issued on 16 July 2014 and Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and
Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.
Michael Crawford Children's Charity conslilues a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
1.2 Fund accountlng
The charity maintains an Expendablo Endowment Fund. The Trustees have decided lo allocate all
voluntary income together wth all investment income to the Fund. In any given year, the Trustees
may. bul need not, apply the balance standing lo the credit of the Expendable Endowment Fund in
fijrthering the charitys objectives.
1.3 Income
Donation income aTising from donations and gifts a￿ credited to the Statement of Financial Activities
in the year in which they are received. Gift aid is also recognised on a re￿IVed basis. Investment
income is rewgni$ed on an accruals basi5.

a¢ty'vity. The costs of each activity are made up ol the total of direct costs and shared costs,

acts'vity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which ¢ontribute to more than one activity
and support costs which are not attributable lo a single activity are apportioned be￿een Ih¢)se

Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.

Fixed asset investments are a form of financial instrument and are initially recognised al their

1.6 Direct taxatlon
The charity is a registered charity and is generally exempl from income lax and capital gains lax bul
is not ablg to recover VAT. Irrecoverable VAT 15 induded in the cost of those items to which il
relates.
1.7 Golng concern
Al the time of approving these financial statements the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that
the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the next 12 months. The
Trustees therefore consider il appropriate to continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing
the charity's financial slalements and there is no material un¢ertainty with the charitls ability lo
continue as a going concern.
1.8 Dabtors
Other debtors are Tecognised at the settlement amount.
1.9 Cash at bank and In hand
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments wth a short
malurily of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar
aceount.
1.10 Liabilltles and provlslons
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the balance sheet date as a re8uIt of a past
event, rt is probable that a transfer of economic benefil will be required in settlement, and the
amount of the settlement Can be eslimaled reliably.
1.11 Flnanclal Instrumonts
The Charity only has financial assets and finanaal liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial
instruments. Basic financTal instruments are initially recognised al transaction value and subsequgnlly
measured at their settlement value.
1.12 Interest and dividends receivable
Interest and dividends from the Investment portfolio are recognised when recefved.

The preparation of the finanaal statements requires management lo make judgements, estimates and
assumptions that affect the amounts reported for assets and liabilities as at the reporting dale and the
amounts reported for revenues and expenses during the year. However, the nature of the estimation
means that actual outcomes could differ from those estimates.
Accruals
Tho charity makes an estimate of accruals at the yoar end based on invoices received after the year end
and work undertaken which has not been invoiced based on quotations or ests"males of arnounls that are
due for payment.
Investments
The charity makes an estimate of the value of listed investments al the year end based on valuation
reports prepared by investsnent advisors.
