## **RRWT Annual Report for 2022**
We entered the year still with the fear that we would be inundated with Rescues as a result of lockdown pups, however that again proved not to be the case. What we have noticed is that we are being approached to help with behavioural problems, some of which are to be expected with inexperienced owners and young boisterous Ridgebacks and some as a result of lockdown, in particular unsocialised puppies with separation anxiety as people go back to their offices. To that effect we ended up supporting 21 dogs, either directly or through our network of behaviourists. We have seen is a large increase in dogs, particularly younger ones, being advertised and re-advertised via social media.
During the year we issued 41 requests for Information before surrender documents which resulted in 27 Ridgebacks being formally surrendered, 10 Female and 17 Male. Having been carefully assessed three were, sadly, deemed unsafe to rehome due to extreme behavioural issues. Interestingly, during a conversation with the Kennel Club, we were commended for being open about the reality that not all dogs can be rehomed.
We will never know all the answers as to the reasons people want to rehome a dog, but what we do know is that we are ever grateful to all the amazing people willing to adopt a dog, often a less than perfect Ridgeback, that may take a lot of hard work, training and understanding to become a sociable member of the family.
Happily, we were able to hold our two major events in 2022, both of which were a great success. Sunday 3rd July saw some 80 people and 50 dogs gather in Chieveley, near Newbury, for a day of fun, games and frolics seeing old friends and new, in all, over £900.00 was raised for RRWT. Our thanks to everyone that attended and to the committee of the Southern Rhodesian Ridgeback Association (SRRA) for their wonderful support of the event and thanks also to Liz and Paul Storey, our constant supporters, for their donation of a case of wine for raffle, which raised £175.00.
The Rosehill Jamboree on 4[th] September, supported by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Great Britain (RRCGB), also saw a similar number attend with the fantastic sum of just over £1,500.00 being raised for rescue and 3 dogs finding their forever homes on the day. We are, as always, immensely grateful for the Club’s continuing support in particular, on the day, the hard work of Cath Davis and Abbi Barnard who ran the wonderful show.
2022 also saw the Trust invest in a van custom adapted for transportation of dogs. This was purchased through the legacy of Peggy Wilson and the van has already proved its worth enabling us to transfer over a dozen dogs safely.
Our 2022 total Income was £66,782.00. This was up £29,000.00 on 2021 primarily due to Peggy Wilson’s legacy as well as an increase in rehoming donations. Total Expenditure: £61,801.00 up £37,000.00 on 2021 mainly due to £15,000.00 of vet fees and the van purchase as well as increased kennel fees due to the number of dogs. This resulted in a surplus of £4,981.00.

We would like to say a big thank you to Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Great Britain and all the other breed clubs for their continued support throughout the year. Whether it be supporting us at dog shows or individuals raising funds through private events, the level of support never ceases to amaze us for which we are so grateful. Without your continued, kind support we would be unable to operate at the level we do.
