RRWT Annual Report 2021
So, for those of you who do not know, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Welfare Trust (RRWT) was formed 27 years ago in 1994 as an independent charity, to relieve the suffering and distress of Rhodesian Ridgebacks who are in need, and to provide rehoming if necessary. The current Chairman is Richard Watts and together with the other trustees have over 250 years or experience with Ridgebacks.
What did 2021 entail?
So, the fear that we would be inundated with Rescues as a result of lockdown pups didn’t materialise, although throughout the year we were asked on several occasions to help with behavioural problems, some of which were to be expected with inexperienced owners and new boisterous Ridgebacks and some of which were as a result lockdowns. The Trust throughout the year supported fifteen dogs, either directly or through our network of behaviourist, initially with telephone support, then moving to face to face as covid lockdown restrictions were relaxed.
In addition, throughout the year 31 Surrender Forms were sent out and after a discussion trying to verify – it is a Ridgeback, - it is not a seriously dangerous dog we received 22 Surrender Forms. Of these two subsequently acknowledged that they were perhaps not telling all the truth and had their dogs PTS. In the end fourteen dogs actually came to Rosehill – 6 female & 8 males. Two were PTSone with medical issues that after consultation with our vet, was decided this would be the kindest route and one with extreme behavioural issues that after assessment was deemed as not suitable for rehome.
So far in 2022, 6 Surrender Forms have been sent out and six returned resulting in 5 Dogs arriving at Rosehill Kennels, four dogs and one bitch. Two have subsequently been rehomed, one is convalescing after his dermoid sinus operation, and one is being reviewed as he was in a poor state on arrival with bad allergic reaction symptoms – coat and eyes - having been kept in a shed.
In terms of finance .
Total Income £37,476 up £4,000 on 2020 and primarily due to a £10,000 legacy
Total Expenditure £24,104 up £3, 000 on 2020 was primarily due to £4,100 of vet fees Resulting in a surplus of £13,372

Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to the RRCGB and the Rhodesian Ridgeback clubs for their continued support throughout the year. Whether it being supporting us at dog shows or individuals raising funds through private events the level of support never ceases to amaze us and for which we are grateful. Without your kind support we would not be able to operate at the level we do.
