Trustees, Annual Re
1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024
Charity Name Crossgates Community Centre
Charity Registration Number 1041860
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
As set out in the governing document the Centre is for the use of the Parish of
Seamer and lrton and the local community without distinction of political,
religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes ar
for other forms of recreation and leisure time with the object of improving the
conditions of life for the com munity.
In hiring out the Centre hourly or daily the trustees have kept in mind the Charity
Commission guidance on the benefit to the local community, whilst keeping the
rental costs to a reasonable amount The Centre is used for meetings, an art class,
craft group, ukulele group and the local council polling station in the Avocet
Room. Whilst religious services, exhibitions, recreation including short mat
bowling badminton, pilates, yoga, racquet ball use the main sports hall. Also
many children's parties use the main hall as well as a baby sensory class and
bouncy castle and soft play, not an extensive list. While keeping the centre clean
and tidy our main objective this year was to replace the eight electric heaters in
the main hall and flooring in the kitchen. Help was re￿iVed in the form of a grant
towards the cost of the heatsrs from our local North YorkshiTe County Councillor.
ACHIEVEMENfs AND PERFORMANCE
The Centre is enjoyed by many regular groups including eight badminton groups,
short mat bowlers, two pilates groups, yoga classes and racquet and paddle
ball sessions who use the sports hall. The sports hall is also used by regular
church groups and the Christmas Carol seniice in December. The Scarborough
Horticultural Association held three exhibitions in the year. Children's parties are
very popular with thirty six in the year.
The smaller Avocet room was used for weekly craft and art groups and a ukulele
group, also by Scarborough Borough Council for the Combined Mayoral election
and the NHS podiatry group. Other occasional users include meetings by the
Labour Paty candidate, Parkinson's Society ar￿ Seamer Parish Council who meet
on alternate months plus a Vintage and Collectsbles day.

In the last year the Centre has replaced eight electric heaters in the Sports hall
and the kitchen flooring. These were the major expenses for the Centre in
addition to the usual maintenance and legal tests required. By insuring full
inclusivity we have increased the availability of social activity and thereby
improved the mental and physical well-being and lessened the effect of social
isolation.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Cash held in the Centres two unrestricted accounts total £44110.96. The current
account at Santander and a deposit account at Skipton Building Society which
attracts interest The main financial risk to the charity are the rising fuel costs and
this may lead to increasing the hire charges at the next Annual General Meeting.
The balance at the end of the last financial year in the resenie account was
£39,000 deposited at Skipton Building Society. The funds are suff icient to cover
months of loss of income and to meet any unforeseen expenditure that may
occur.
The Centre was very grateful to Councillor Heather Phillips for using part of her
North Yorkshire County Council grant £2,000 towards the cost of £5037 in
replacing the sports hall heaters. The solar panels brought in a return of almost
£2200. The only other source of income is from the users hiring the Centre.
STRUCTURE. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The trustees of Crossgates Community Centre, an Unincorporated association,
meet at least four times a year. The Conveyancing document was adopted 6th
July 1993.
Trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at the Annual General Meeting in
April each year.
