Whittington & Oswestry YFC Trustee’s Report 2023-24:

We started the year off to a strong start with a fantastic new member’s evening, seeing many new faces. A lot of these joined up and their efforts did not go unnoticed throughout the year. During the year, we took part in many competitions, socials, activities and fundraising events.

Our fundraising started in November with a rugby match in memory of a member whose life ended too soon, with all proceeds going to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. Shortly after we held our first illuminated tractor run. It was amazing to see all of the happy faces on our local streets. We managed to raise an astonishing £12,000, again for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Then we started the competitions, starting off strong with members taking part in a one plus competition and placing first. Allowing the club to move on to the next round and again coming away with first. Then along came the tug of war competition, with 3 teams entered (junior, women’s and men’s). After months of hard work and some hard fought battles, the men’s team came away with second place, qualifying for the West Midlands Area competition.

We also held a dance that was open to all YFC clubs. It was very successful, allowing us to keep putting on events and giving back to our members who put their all in. In July, we held an event to celebrate 80 years of Whittington & Oswestry YFC.

It was a great night, which showcased our abilities. As far as socials go we supported many other clubs in their efforts to raise money and give back to the farming community.

At the end of the year, we were nominated for the Lingen Davies Clubs and Groups Award, which we won! Another highlight of the year was going to Birmingham for the NFYFC National Achiever Awards. It was a real pleasure to be there and was

fantastic to be nominated for the Community Spirit Award, highlighting how much we

have done in our local community in the past 12 months.
