Andy Economides spoke and trained at ‘events’ across the UK and overseas. Throughout the year Soteria Trust continued to oversee the development of the Soteria Business School in Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa.

**Public Benefit:** Soteria Trust operates for public benefit through;

1. Teaching at Christian church services and events in the UK and overseas.

2. Training in Christian discipleship, outreach and mentoring church leaders in the UK.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

3. Provision of a secretarial and business school at Ibadan, Nigeria, targeted especially at needy young people.

4. Provision of children’s sponsorships at Prospect School, Ibadan, Nigeria and Scholarships at the Soteria Business School, Ibadan.

All events and church services are open to anyone to attend, and although voluntary collections are taken at some services, donations are not compulsory. An honorarium or fee is usually charged for Soteria’s attendance at training events, designed to contribute towards the Trust’s costs. No admission fees are charged to participants for attendance at such events, and the fee is paid directly by the sponsoring body. The business school in Nigeria does charge individual fees for education and in some cases provision of accommodation and food. However, these fees are low by comparison with fees charged by similar institutions in Ibadan, and some scholarships are awarded to students who could not otherwise afford the fees, with the scholarships funded mostly by UK donors.

The Trustees are not aware of any harm caused by the Trust which needs to be balanced against benefits. The Trustees have had regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

**Grant-making policy:** Soteria provides for its own charitable works and as such does not encourage others to apply for grants. However, grants are considered by the director. Educational scholarships/sponsorships or other requests for help is asked for mainly from abroad to the director for a decision and is at his discretion. The director may consult the trustees for advice.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

**Specific investment powers:** The Trust Deed allows trustees investment powers as written in section 4.2 of the Deed: _Power to invest, and vary the investment of, any money for the time being comprised in the Trust as the Trustees think fit and investments shall be taken to include the laying money for or towards the alteration, improvement, repair or decoration of the property, the acquisition of assets which do not produce income and the purchase of property with a view to its being used for any charitable purposes._

## **Section E Financial review**

It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds which have not been **Brief statement of the** designated for a specific use should be maintained, if possible, at least to a **charity’s policy on reserves** level equivalent to between three- and six-months’ expenditure. The trustees consider that the strength of the trust is the large number of regular (small) monthly gifts by bankers’ order. The trust is not generally relying on large donations, which would make the trust more vulnerable.

## **Details of any funds materially**

**in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

## **Section F Other optional information**

The Soteria Business School in Africa needs more than £53,000 per year to operate properly. Soteria Trust manages the financial giving to the school in Africa carefully throughout the year. Soteria Trust needs **new partners** . Historically large one-off gifts to Soteria Trust for the school has been and continues to be vital to the school being established and continuing.

The Soteria Trust teams, sometimes with professional volunteers each year to the Soteria School is a key factor to the well-being and success of the school.

|**2.4 ASSETS**
**Intangible fixed assets**
**Heritage assets**
**Stocks and work in**
**progress**
Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost or net
realisable value.
Goods or services provided as part of a charitable activity are measured at net realisable value
based on the service potential provided by items of stock.
Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on the contract.
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost
categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, eg allocating property costs
by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
They are valued at cost.
**Investments**
Fixed asset investments in quoted shares, traded bonds and similar investments are
valued at initially at cost and subsequently at fair value (their market value) at the year
end. The same treatment is applied to unlisted investments unless fair value cannot be
measured reliably in which case it is measured at cost less impairment.
Investments held for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a
maturity date of less than 1 year are treated as current asset investments
**Grants with performance**
**conditions**
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of
service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SoFA once the
recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output.
**Grants payable without**
**performance conditions**
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to
realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be
recognised.
The charity has intangible fixed assets, that is, non-monetary assets that do not have
physical substance but are identifiable and are controlled by the charity through custody
or legal rights. The amortisation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 9.5
They are valued at cost.
The charity has heritage assets, that is, non-monetary assets with historic, artistic,
scientific, technological, geophysical or environmental qualities that are held and
maintained principally for their contribution to knowledge and culture. The depreciation
rates and methods used as disclosed in note 9.6.1.4.
This includes any realised or unrealised gains or losses on the sale of investments and
any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the
year.

benefits are recognised as income earned from the provision of goods and services as
income from charitable activities.
**2.3 EXPENDITURE AND LIABILITIES**
**Liability recognition**
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or
constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the
obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
**Investment gains and**
**losses**
The charity accounts for basic financial instruments on initial recognition as per
paragraph 10.7 FRS102 SORP. Subsequent measurement is as per paragraphs 11.17
to 11.19, FRS102 SORP.
**Tangible fixed assets for**
**use by charity**
The depreciation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 9.2.
**Governance and support**
**costs**
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support.
Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its
compliance with regulation and good practice.
**Settlement of insurance**
**claims**
Insurance claims are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition
criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP) and are included as an item of other
income in the SoFA.
They are valued at cost.
These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least
**Redundancy cost**
The charity made no redundancy payments during the reporting period.
**Deferred income**
No material item of deferred income has been included in the accounts.
**Creditors**
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade
discounts
**Provisions for liabilities**
A liability is measured on recognition at its historical cost and then subsequently
measured at the best estimate of the amount required to settle the obligation at the
reporting date
**Basic financial**
**instruments**||||✓|

**Set out on pages** SOFA, B SHEET, Sheets N1 – N29 of CC17a

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended **31 / 01/ 2025**

.

**Responsibilities and basis of report** As the charity’s trustees of the Company (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”).

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”). In carrying out my examination, I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that:

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or

- the accounts do not accord with such records; or

• the accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

- •the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS102).
