SELNEC EDUCATIONAL TRUST REPORT 2020

This has been a problematic year for the trustees. We started expecting to move forward with rationalisation of our vehicle stock and to secure premises to replace or improve upon those we had to give up in Leigh. In reality we quickly found possible premises, but each and every one close to Manchester proved unsuitable when investigated fully. As a consequence, and with some fortune we did secure good dry accommodation, but not close to Manchester. It does however mean that the vehicles are secure and there are limited opportunities to work on them.

We are still in the process of finalising the accounts for Leigh and the waste water account is proving a little problematic.

Rally activity has been suspended as a result of COVID but we hope that as things ease, we will be able to have some presence during 2021-22.

We secured support for the restoration of one vehicle through a loan agreement and we have agreed an extension to this as a result of delays brought about by COVID. We have continued to look to find homes for our surplus vehicles and have had some modest success. The reality is however that by the Autumn of 2021 we need to vacate our open storage in Manchester.

Our focus going forward is to realise assets and ensure we have long term funding for a modest but representative fleet of restored vehicles. In addition we need to acquire workshop facilities in the Manchester area to facilitate restoration work. Since Warren Atherton ceased to be a Trustee we have waited to see if he wished to be re-appointed. He has not made such a request. We have therefore looked to identify someone who could bring something to the group. A person has been identified and they have indicated a willingness to be appointed, but are not able to do so immediately. We will keep this under review.
