## FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST, WATFORD

## REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD & TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30™ JUNE 2021

Mission Statement The purpose of the Church is to maintain and spread the truth as set forth in the Bible and in Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

## Executive Board

Members currently serving are:-

Susan Houston (Chairman) John Houston (Clerk) Philippa Flamand-Gloyne Jason Rawlings (Treasurer)

## Review

Due to the continuing pandemic the church remained closed throughout the year and services and meetings continued to be held online via Zoom. The resumption of receipts from parking fees in August was welcomed as was an unexpected one-off donation of £5k from the Westminster Fund.

The church sponsored a Zoom lecture on 21° November by Michelle Nanouche CSB entitled ‘Finding your immunity from disease’.

Our charitable giving included donations to The Mother Church, Joint C S Reading Room and gifts of the C S Monitor.

## Financial Position

The Receipts & Payments account on page 3 shows an operating surplus for the year of £11760 compared to a deficit of £4859 in 2020. However the above surplus was enhanced by the above mentioned special donation of £5000 for which we were most grateful. This resulted in a final surplus for the year of £16760. Basically the turnaround can be attributed to a combination of an increase in lettings income and reduced overall spending during the year.

## Reserves Policy

As a consequence liquid reserves increased from £101k to £117840 as at 30" June 2021 and remain ample to meet both present commitments and the cost of maintaining the Church and Reading Room for the foreseeable future.

## Acknowledgement

> The Executive Board is indebted to all members and helpers for their dedication; and support during an especially difficult period. Susan HoustonSs Dated: 6 (Loctober 2021 Chairman
